Red Dead Redemption Owners on Last-Gen Consoles Are Eligible for Free Upgrades

Owners of Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch will get the upgraded version of the game at no cost.

Everyone’s been talking about Red Dead Redemption today! Rockstar Games has officially announced it’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and mobile devices (Android and iOS). Plus, if you already own the game on older consoles, you’ll get a free upgrade to the improved version.

PS4, Xbox One, and Switch Users Will Receive Free Upgrades for Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar Games announced on their blog that players who already own Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or as a digital purchase on Xbox One can upgrade to the new version for free. PlayStation 4 owners will be able to carry over their existing game progress, and Nintendo Switch owners will have the same option when the game is available on the new Switch console.

The new Red Dead Redemption game will look and play best on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, offering smooth 60 frames per second, improved graphics, HDR support, and resolutions up to 4K. Players with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will also enjoy enhancements like DLSS, HDR, mouse and keyboard compatibility, 60 FPS gameplay, and higher resolution graphics.

Good news for PlayStation Plus subscribers! Red Dead Redemption will be added to the Game Catalog on December 2, 2025. Plus, the game has become the fourth best-selling video game of all time!
