The player base for the game Rematch has been gradually shrinking since its launch by Sloclap in June 2025. This highly anticipated title, similar to Sifu in creativity from its creators, offers a fresh perspective on a widely enjoyed sport.
In the game called “Rematch,” fouls, breaks, and offsides are absent, resulting in fast-paced soccer matches. Since the characters don’t have statistics, success in this third-person game hinges entirely on a player’s strategic and skillful play. Furthermore, one unique aspect of the game is that matches can take place not just in traditional stadiums, but also exotic locations like deserts and forests. However, recent data suggests that “Rematch” may not live up to Sloclap’s promise of a novel experience, as indicated by the new statistics.
Rematch Player Count in Steady Decline
Following the successful launch of Rematch, SteamCharts indicates a significant drop in player count, with a decrease of approximately 60.32% in August. This led to a substantial decline in peak concurrent players, dropping from 50,434 in July to 20,546 in August. The average number of players also saw a noticeable drop, decreasing from 20,256 in July to only 8,037 in August as reported by SteamCharts.
According to GameTrends, as reported by True Achievements, the Xbox player base for Rematch experienced an even more dramatic decrease of 78.4% from its peak. On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 player count decreased by 60.1% in the second week after reaching its peak.

In a surprising turn of events, the new game Rematch launched at the eighth spot on Xbox, climbed up to sixth place, and managed to sell more than a million copies in its initial week. However, it didn’t take long for players to encounter problems with the soccer game, including network issues like netcode and lag, which made gameplay unpredictable. Additionally, crashes, freezes, poor performance, inconsistent matchmaking, and hackers disrupting matches were common complaints from the gaming community. Later patches did improve the netcode, but even with crossplay added in its third major update, players continue to experience issues, as highlighted by Reddit user Sea-Satisfaction3668.
Sloclap is diligently addressing the issues faced by Rematch players, as shown in the September 11 update. They rectified a problem that hindered smooth movement for keyboard and mouse users, and they resolved a glitch that stopped final battle pass rewards from being unlocked properly. With an exciting content plan lined up for Rematch in the near future, players eagerly anticipate the game returning to its former glory and providing an improved gaming experience.
