Summary
- Remedy Connected Universe links Alan Wake & Control through crossover DLC.
- Remedy’s creative director, Sam Lake, plans to expand lore through connected universe.
- Control’s sequel in development and expected to tie into Alan Wake 2 even more.
If you noticed connections between Alan Wake 2 and Control while playing, it’s not a hidden nod from Remedy Entertainment. Instead, these two games belong to the Remedy Connected Universe, which is an interconnected storyline that forms part of the studio’s overall plan.
The first link between the stories was formed through Control’s AWE (Altered World Event) expansion pack, and last year’s terrifying game Alan Wake 2 further strengthened this connection by featuring a complete crossover DLC called “The Lake House,” which brought in Control’s character Kiran Estevez. In the world created by Remedy Entertainment, Estevez is a field agent for the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) who is based at Bright Falls.
Remedy Says It’s Too Early To Talk About Connected Universes’ Endgame
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that during a video chat with IGN (through GamesRadar), Remedy Creative Director Sam Lake hinted at the studio’s exciting journey of weaving their games into one interconnected universe. He also emphasized that it’s premature to discuss any final chapter or endgame, suggesting that this grand narrative is just getting started!
Lake explains, “I enjoy delving deeper into the background and broadening the storyline. It’s like tapping into these threads we’ve laid out, exploring different possibilities. It’s incredibly thrilling! Our approach is that each game should be enjoyable independently, but for those who have played other Remedy games, we aim to include a wealth of content that deepens the ongoing universe story.
Regarding Alan Wake 2, although Remedy hasn’t officially announced a third installment in the series yet, given the way the second game concluded, it feels inevitable that they will soon announce another addition to the franchise. Plus, considering that the studio has managed to recoup their main development and marketing costs for the horror game, it seems unlikely that this sequel would lead Remedy into financial trouble.
If you’re a fan of thrilling narratives and enjoy games with a deep, thoughtful storyline that delves into dark and eerie themes while maintaining an element of humor, then I strongly recommend giving Alan Wake 2 a try. Despite not having played the first game, its exceptional quality was confirmed in our review, where it was stated that the game solidified Remedy as a developer who can be trusted to deliver such unique narratives. The characters in the game acknowledge the absurdities they encounter alongside the horrors, making the impossible seem more real.
In addition to their ongoing projects, Remedy Entertainment is also working on a new game set within the same universe, titled “FBC: Firebreak”. Unlike its predecessors, this game emphasizes multiplayer experiences and is scheduled for release in the year 2025.
