Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon | How to unlock the Warden Archetype

As a seasoned veteran of the Remnant universe, I find myself constantly intrigued by the unique abilities and mechanics each character offers. The Warden, with his trusty drone companion, is no exception. This fellow’s life has been all about balance – balancing energy reserves, managing shields, and ensuring the well-being of his teammates.

At long last, the long-awaited final DLC for Remnant 2 has arrived, completing the expansion pass with panache. This latest update includes a fresh new region called N’Erud, a main quest to undertake, an array of new gear, endgame enhancements, and even a Boss Rush Mode. However, what truly excites craft-oriented players is the introduction of a new Archetype – the Warden. Delve into this guide to learn how to unlock the Warden Archetype in Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon.

In contrast to the Invoker from The Forgotten Kingdom, the Warden demands less pixel-precision in exploration. However, it still involves some luck, as I experienced while soaring through the skies with the new glider and tracking the vapor trails of steam. The game The Dark Horizon offers an innovative mode of transportation: at specific locations, N’Erudian gliders become available to aid you in navigating the dangerous poisonous sludge-covered lakes within the biome. This is facilitated by lifting it into rising steam columns, which often indicate hidden treasures – particularly when multiple columns are grouped together.

To start off, I’ve got to make my way through the initial zone of Devoid Quietus since Remnant 2 doesn’t introduce its Archetypes in the main overworld right away. As I progress, I’ll find myself at the Withered Necropolis and a checkpoint called Waylaid Conservatory, where the Gardener is stationed to share some backstory. After giving him a wide berth, look out for a glider point spanning a small gap ahead. Clear any enemies on the way or give them a wide birth, then soar across the gap, keeping right as I follow the curve of the map’s path.

As you advance, you’ll reach an open expanse with another landing spot for your glider. This area is being watched by two hostile figures who seem oddly stationary, merely standing and staring. It’s uncommon for them to stay put like this instead of moving around. Eliminate them both, then proceed to the glider, and if you glance to your right, you’ll notice a conspicuous gap between the cliff faces – one that might hide something significant.

Jump out and veer to the right, and as you pass the cliff edge, you’ll spot two columns of steam. Your goal is the second one, which will lift you towards a cave entrance illuminated by light. Go inside, eliminate any moving creatures, then turn left. You’ll traverse a long bridge (offering a view of where you initially entered the region), and then plunge into a brief cavern.

The essential item you’re looking for is clearly visible, suspended within a beam of yellow light. It’s known as the “Worn Mechanism”, and you must deliver it to Wallace in Ward 13 to construct the Command Module. By doing so, the Warden Archetype will become yours.

What is the Warden Archetype?

As a gamer, I’d say I’m much like the Warden, a support character with a knack for utility. This guy is all about staying alive, which makes him an ideal fit for the tough-as-nails roles like the Engineer, Medic, and Alchemist. We complement each other exceptionally well on the battlefield.

Key Advantage: Regenerative Shield – After ten seconds without taking damage, the Warden gains a protective shield equivalent to 10.3% of its maximum health over a span of two seconds.

Increases the base N’Erudian Energy Reserves for the Drone and Engineer’s Turret by 25%.

Deploy a Protective Drone with 125 Energy Reserves that will trail and safeguard the designated Guarded Subject.

As a gamer, I find myself in a unique position: my character’s protected target, the Warded Target, gets an extra layer of defense with a 10% boost in Damage Reduction. Here’s the twist – when this target isn’t at its maximum shield capacity, my drone steps up to the plate, using 25 Energy to bestow a temporary shield equal to 8.2% of the target’s maximum health every couple of seconds. These protective shields persist until they’re removed by damage, the Warded Target is modified in some way, or I choose to stow my drone.

If the Drone is not active for 5 seconds, it enters a dormant state, during which it gradually regains 1.2% of its energy every second. When the Drone runs out of energy, it becomes inactive, but starts to recharge and gains 1.8% of its energy per second until it’s fully charged again.

Single Press: Drone alters its Warded Target to the targeted ally. Max 1 Shield Drone per target.

Double Tap: Drone returns to the Warden and remains by their side.

Hold: Stow Drone to gain 4.8% Energy Regen per second.

As an enthusiast, I’d say: “Activate the Healing Drone with a capacity of 125 Energy Reserves, keeping close tabs on and safeguarding my Guarded Target.

When activated, the Protected Mark increases its relic activation speed by 10%. If the protected mark’s health isn’t at full capacity, the drone will automatically heal it, restoring 10.25% of its maximum health every second while consuming 15 energy each time. The shield provided by the drone remains active until it is destroyed by damage, the target’s status changes, or the drone is stored away.

After being inactive for 5 seconds, the drone enters a power-saving mode, gradually regaining 1.2% of its energy every second. Once its energy is completely depleted, it becomes inactive again, but starts to slowly recharge at a rate of 1.8% per second until it’s fully charged.

Single Press: Drone alters its Warded Target to the targeted ally. Max 1 Shield Drone per target.

Double Tap: Drone returns to the Warden and remains by their side.

Hold: Stow Drone to gain 4.8% Energy Regen per second.

Ability 3: Deploy Battle Drone: This drone, equipped with a 125 energy reserve, will track and safeguard its designated Defended Objective.

The Warded Target gains increased Fire Rate and Total Melee Speed by 10%, and decreased Firearm Charge time by 10%. While in combat, the Drone attacks the Warded Target’s focused enemy, consuming 10 Energy per barrage.

After being inactive for 5 seconds, the drone enters an energy-saving mode, during which it regains approximately 1.2% of its energy each second. Once its energy level is completely depleted, the drone shuts down completely and starts to gradually recharge at a rate of about 1.8% per second until it’s fully charged again.

Single Press: Drone alters its Warded Target to the targeted ally. Max 1 Shield Drone per target.

Double Tap: Drone returns to the Warden and remains by their side.

Hold: Stow Drone to gain 4.8% Energy Regen per second.

The Warden has four intrinsic perks, as follows:

Damage Perk – Galvanise: Grants a 2.5% increase to all damage. Increases with Warden level.

Team Perk – Safeguard: The Warden’s Drone grants 1 stack of Bulwark to its Warded Target.

Special Ability – Emergency Measure: As the Warden’s health falls below 25%, you receive a protective shield equal to 25.8% of their maximum health. This shield lasts for 10 seconds. It can be activated only once every 30 seconds.

Energize (Relic Ability): When you activate your relic, you gain a shield equal to 25.8% of your maximum health for 10 seconds. The shield can’t be combined with itself and it disappears when removed by damage.

Apart from the Warden, the Trait card named ‘Barrier’ is also present. This card boosts the Warden’s Shield strength by 1% and enhances further with each point spent on the trait.
