100 Girlfriends season 2, episode 3, titled “The Maid’s Confession,” concludes with the maid, Mei, revealing her feelings for Rentarou following a significant gaze between them. This installment delves deeper into understanding Mei’s peculiar traits and driving forces.

In the spirit of an ardent fan, let me share my take on describing the latest episode of “100 Girlfriends”: Just like many episodes before, this one is divided into two segments. The initial segment revolves around Rentarou and Mei embarking on their first romantic outing together, creating a heartwarming and delightful scene. Conversely, the second half sees Hahari compelling everyone to don maid uniforms, leading to an unexpected waterlogged adventure – a far cry from the sweetness of the first part! If you’re guessing which one is the wholesome bit and which one takes a more unconventional turn, I think you can easily figure it out.

Rentarou and Mei’s Date

The Maid Gets Served

On their initial outing together, Hahari instructs Mei to act as Rentarou’s personal attendant for the day. As this part of the series unfolds, we gain a better understanding of Mei’s character. She is an individual who is wholly committed to serving others. Her devotion is so profound that when Rentarou enquired about her preferences, tastes, and pastimes, all she could mention was her fondness for both Hahari and Rentarou.

Throughout the entire scene, it was touching to see Rentarou encouraging Mei to express herself individually. His approach was subtle yet effective. He instructed Mei not to serve him in any way, but whatever actions she took, he managed to make them advantageous for himself. Eventually, Mei found herself unable to displease him, so Rentarou suggested that since she couldn’t help but please him regardless, she might as well do what makes her happy, as he would continue to admire her no matter what she did.

In simpler terms, “Just by being who you are, you’re already making a positive impact on me. I don’t require you to obey my commands or cater to my needs. Your worth is inherent and unchanged.” (Rentarou speaking to Mei)

The date uncovers some crucial insights about Mei’s past and her profound loyalty towards Hahari. It appears that as a child, Mei was left to endure the cold, but Hahari rescued her. In a later scene, it’s disclosed that Hahari intended to raise Mei alongside Hakari, but she declined. Moved by gratitude, Mei chose to serve under Hahari as a maid for the rest of her life. If not for the fact that Hahari saved young Mei primarily because she found her adorable, it would have been a heartwarming tale. However, that’s just the peculiar nature of Hahari.

How Is Mei Compared to the Other Girls?

In comparison, if you were to choose a person who most closely resembles Mei at present, it would be Nano Eiai. Both exhibit a calculated approach in their actions, as they meticulously align their behavior with their thought processes. Nano prioritizes efficiency; she performs only the essential tasks, never more nor less. On the other hand, Mei is characterized by her unwavering loyalty. Everything she does is for her master’s benefit. However, it’s important to note that this similarity in dedication is quite specific, and they are distinct individuals in many ways. For instance, while Nano appears to be more emotionally reserved, Mei demonstrates a broader spectrum of emotions.

In essence, Mei shares more characteristics with Rentarou than any other female characters. They both exhibit an unwavering devotion towards those they cherish, going to lengths that might seem illogical. Thus, one could say Mei embodies a feminine counterpart of Rentarou, except without the harem aspect. This comparison might seem to suggest that Rentarou is hypocritical for expecting less from Mei than he demands from some of the other girls, but this point may be explored further in upcoming episodes.

Maid of Duty

Hahari Wants Wet Maids, Chaos Ensues

In the last episode, Hahari became upset as she desired for the group to transform into babies and wear her homemade outfits. In contrast, this time around, Hahari got angry because she wanted the others to don maid outfits that she had created. The amusing paradox of the eldest girl behaving in a childish manner is indeed… quite intriguing. If you find the chaos of “100 Girlfriends” more appealing than its heartwarming moments, then you’ll appreciate this storyline.

Additionally, the sight of girls dressed as maids wasn’t the only amusement; there was also a water gun fight, where the victor received a kiss from Rentarou. This event was quite entertaining, disregarding its suggestive aspects. The unusual behavior exhibited by Eiai, resembling a Terminator, and Hakari holding her mother captive, albeit non-sexually, was quite extraordinary. It’s refreshing to experience a change in the humor of 100 Girlfriends.
