REPORT: 80% of Gamers Have Encountered Cheaters Online

If you’ve ever played a contemporary competitive game, chances are you’ve encountered someone using tricks or unfair advantages to win more often. Interestingly, this issue isn’t unique to modern games – it has been present since the early days of multiplayer gaming, regardless of the era.

According to a recent study spotlighted by PlaySafe ID, an astounding 80% of video game enthusiasts (as per the report) have encountered a cheater while playing online games. This has resulted in nearly 42% of gamers pondering over leaving their chosen game due to the rising number of cheaters.

While some games may be more enjoyable than others, it’s important to note that we’re dealing with a significant issue affecting gamers on a global scale. This problem is prevalent across the world.

‘It’s a Serious Issue’

In the previous month, I delved into the launch of PlaySafe ID, a dedicated entity aiming to significantly reduce the influx of cheaters in popular games such as Escape from Tarkov, Rainbow Six Siege, and Call of Duty.

The very same organization has recently published a study examining the prevalence of cheating within the international gaming sector.

In a poll conducted among over 2,000 video game enthusiasts in both the U.S. and the U.K., the responses revealed some highly critical findings.

Approximately 80% of gamers have encountered a cheater online at some point, and out of this group, about 55% have either decreased or completely stopped their spending on additional game features due to a lack of trust in the game’s fairness.

Approximately 42% of gamers have considered quitting a game permanently due to the presence of cheaters, and this seems to be true for Escape from Tarkov players as well. Even though the developers regularly ban thousands of cheaters, the overall opinion about the game is at its lowest point.

In the past few hours, it’s come to light that some unscrupulous players managed to infiltrate the early access of Battlefield 6.

In a surprising finding from a survey, around 71% of respondents expressed a willingness to confirm their identity using a reputable verification service – a world that PlaySafe ID aims to create. This accountability would ensure that dishonest individuals are not left undetected.

Worryingly, 62% of gamers admitted to having felt tempted to cheat.

The comprehensive report has been made available on the PlaySafe ID platform, yet it’s troubling news that could potentially raise some alarm regarding multiplayer games.

Let me know if you’ve brushed up against cheaters recently on the TopMob forum.
