Over time, the Resident Evil series has been gradually updating its older games to appeal to current audiences. Since 2015, Capcom has launched remakes of the first four games within the Resident Evil series, with the latest one being Resident Evil 4, which came out in 2023.
Speculation among fans is high about whether there will be a remake of Resident Evil 5 coming up next. However, an ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) listing hints that it might be skipped in favor of a revamp or upgrade of the series’ most contentious release instead.
The ESRB rating of “Resident Evil 6” for Xbox Series X|S indicates that the game has been tailored for contemporary players. Although the listing solely mentions the Xbox platform, it’s likely that a version for the PlayStation 5 is also on its way.
Given that the game has been rated and there’s no new information from Capcom suggesting a full-scale production, it seems more likely we’re looking at a remaster rather than a comprehensive remake for Resident Evil 6. Some contend that a complete remake might not be necessary; instead, they suggest a remaster and some user-friendly improvements would suffice.
You Can Already Play Resident Evil 6 on Current Consoles
It’s perplexing that a remastered version of Resident Evil 6 is being planned for modern consoles, given that the original game has been playable on these platforms since its release in 2016 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Moreover, it was also released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. The existing versions on these platforms already include all of the game’s DLC.
The game is still available for purchase across various platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. You can make a purchase right away.
A few adjustments could enhance the game significantly, however, it’s worth noting that due to the negative response towards Resident Evil 6, Capcom felt compelled to reimagine the series anew with Resident Evil 7. The direction for future Resident Evil Remakes is uncertain; classics such as Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero are ripe for remaking. Additionally, there’s uncertainty regarding the development of Resident Evil 9. Given the potential delays in production, a remaster could serve as an interim solution to appease fans while they wait for the next installment.
