Capcom’s next installment in the Resident Evil franchise is yet to be officially revealed, and the long patient wait is still going on.
Meanwhile, rumors and leaks have been filling in the gaps until we receive any form of official announcement.
In simpler terms, the most recent Resident Evil game that was a continuation of the series was Resident Evil Village, which came out in 2021. However, if you’re referring to the last Resident Evil game overall, that would be Resident Evil 4, which was released in 2023.
So, it has been quite some time since the release of a new Resident Evil game, or at least news and updates regarding one.
Lately, a reliable source known as Dusk Golem has leaked some fresh details about an upcoming game that’s tentatively referred to as Resident Evil 9.
As he stated, Resident Evil 9 is expected to offer a fresh take on the series, much like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 did, bringing substantial changes to the franchise.
He suggests that this is the reason why Resident Evil 9’s development has been taking such a long time, and fans will understand that once the game is fully revealed. On platform X, he said the following:

Both versions of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 brought about substantial changes to the series, particularly in terms of combat systems and camera angles.
It’s hard to predict exactly how the new Resident Evil game will change things up, but given its lengthy hiatus, it’s likely to be extremely daring and innovative.
If Dusk Golem is to be believed, then we should finally get an official look at Resident Evil 9 this year. Maybe during summer events or perhaps an exclusive Capcom digital direct.
It was previously suggested that Resident Evil 9 might have Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine sharing the lead roles. However, considering the ongoing development process, those plans could potentially have been altered.
It’s also worth mentioning that this year, we might see the official reveal of Resident Evil 5 remaster or remake, which has been the highlight of recent rumors a couple of times. Another rumored project in the series is Resident Evil Zero Remake.
