Resident Evil Character Has Been MIA Since 2012

Fourteen years ago, a character was introduced in the Resident Evil series and hasn’t appeared since. Sadly, she’s become part of a recurring pattern in the games – characters who are introduced but then quickly forgotten, and it’s doubtful she’ll return in the future.

The Resident Evil series frequently brings back popular characters, even beyond Leon and Chris. While some, like Claire Redfield in Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Ada Wong, and recently Rebecca Chambers in Resident Evil: Death Island, reappear relatively quickly, others haven’t been seen for a long time—or at all. This particular character falls into that latter category.

Helena Harper is MIA

I remember playing Resident Evil 6 when it first came out in 2012 – it had a ton of playable characters! Alongside the familiar faces like Leon, Chris, and Ada, they introduced some new ones, like Helena Harper, Piers Nivans, and Jake Muller. It felt like they were setting up these new characters to become the future leads as the older ones got… well, older. But honestly, it’s been 14 years since then, and Helena has completely disappeared. It’s a shame, I thought she was a cool character, and I haven’t seen a single mention of her since!

Unlike many other games in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 6 wasn’t as well-received, and that might explain why the character hasn’t reappeared. Still, bringing her back would make sense. While her personal story—searching for her sister and investigating the President’s death—wrapped up in Resident Evil 6, she’s a skilled federal agent who could work well alongside Leon. Her experience with large-scale bio-terrorism outbreaks would also make her a valuable asset in a future game, even if she wasn’t a playable character.

Helena Isn’t the Only Missing Person

Helena’s disappearance is a recurring issue in the Resident Evil series – many characters, including Jake Muller from Resident Evil 6, have faced similar fates. This isn’t just a problem for characters in Resident Evil 6, though. Other supporting characters who were playable in past games, like Billy Coen from Resident Evil 0 and Sheva Alomar from Resident Evil 5, haven’t appeared in the main games since their debut. Even characters who could realistically return, such as Parker Luciani from Resident Evil Revelations or Josh Stone from Resident Evil 5, are notably absent.

Some Absent Resident Evil Characters Could Return Soon

I’m really excited about the possibility of seeing some older characters return in future Resident Evil games! They surprised us in Resident Evil Requiem by bringing back Alyssa Ashcroft from the original Outbreak games, which was awesome. And the trailer from The Game Awards makes it seem like Sherry Birkin might be coming back too, since she hasn’t been in much since Resident Evil 6 and the RE2 Remake. It makes sense, though, given the new game goes back to Raccoon City – she and Leon have a lot of history there. If they bring Sherry back, I’m hoping we might see characters like Carlos, Ada, Jill, or Claire show up as well. Fingers crossed!

It’s unlikely Helena will be in the next Resident Evil movie, though a small appearance isn’t impossible due to her connection with Leon. A more probable return for her would be in Resident Evil Survival Unit, a mobile game released in late 2025. This game has already featured characters like Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira who haven’t appeared in the main games for some time. However, the game might prioritize more well-known characters, meaning Helena may still not be included.

Players won’t have to wait much longer to find out what happened to Helena and the other characters who disappeared. The new game, Resident Evil Requiem, comes out in late February, and a Resident Evil presentation on January 15th might reveal some clues beforehand.
