As a survivor of the Raccoon City catastrophe, I can’t help but reflect on the lives lost during those harrowing days. Among the many unfortunate souls, some stand out as particularly poignant, and Annette Birkin is one such individual.
In the fictional world of Resident Evil, it’s common knowledge about the horrific incident in Raccoon City. This catastrophe, a lethal outbreak that transformed the tranquil townsfolk into mindless zombies, wasn’t a fortunate event for everyone. While individuals like Leon and Claire were able to flee unscathed, not all inhabitants had the same luck.
Indeed, the tragic incident in Resident Evil claimed countless lives, but among those lost were pivotal characters who significantly shaped the broader narrative. It’s essential to remember these individuals for their selfless contributions or, conversely, their challenging roles that presented obstacles for our heroes to overcome.
8. Brad Vickers
Brad Acts As A Temporary Ally For Jill Before Meeting His Untimely Fate
In the game Resident Evil 3, Brad appears early on, assisting Jill in reaching safety. Given his initial encounter with players, one might assume that Brad could be a long-term ally. However, mere minutes after his introduction, Brad tragically meets his end, not at the hands of an unknown enemy, but specifically, the Nemesis.
In the remake, his demise occurs differently; instead of dying at a later point, he fights off a horde of zombies in a bar but is ultimately bitten during the struggle. Afterward, he’s found outside the R.P.D., where Marvin and Carlos mercifully end his suffering. Despite his brief life span, Brad played a crucial role by informing Jill about the situation once she was unwillingly thrown into this horrific nightmare.
7. Chief Irons
One Of The Most Satisfying Deaths In The Entire Series
The malevolent head of the R.P.D., Chief Irons, significantly contributed to the catastrophe that engulfed Raccoon City. Moreover, he attempted to abduct Sherry, thereby prolonging and endangering Claire’s voyage.
In Resident Evil 2, players uncover numerous documents detailing Irons’ corrupt actions such as accepting bribes and coercing his peers. Consequently, when he is ultimately torn apart, although it’s gruesome, it’s also gratifying to watch him suffer the consequences of his wrongdoings, which contributed to the turmoil that unfolds in the game.
6. Mikhail Victor
Victor Makes The Ultimate Sacrifice To Slow Down Nemesis
At the initial encounter between Jill and Mikhail during the early stages of the outbreak, their relationship isn’t exactly harmonious. However, it becomes apparent fairly quickly that Mikhail is essentially a kind-hearted individual who is committed to his duty—that is, helping as many people survive as he can. This selflessness is underscored when Mikhail willingly gives up his life to halt the Nemesis.
In all variations of Resident Evil 3, Mikhail deliberately puts himself in danger by shielding Jill from Nemesis on the cable car. Although Mikhail’s actions may not have permanently stopped Nemesis, it is very possible that Jill’s dramatic escape would have come to an end without his intervention.
5. Ben Bertolucci
Ben Only Shows Up For A Few Minutes In His Cell Before Being Blown Apart
Leon encounters Ben shortly following his introduction to Ada, who’s concealed within a cell at that moment. Originally in “Resident Evil 2”, Ben elects to stay put, but in the remake, he’s imprisoned there and is trying to find a means of escape.
In the original scenario, Ben possesses several essential items for Leon to explore the sewers. After parting with these items, Ben meets an unfortunate and grisly demise. In the original version, Birkin splits him in half, whereas in the remake, Mr. X’s massive hand bursts through the prison walls and brutally crushes his head like a squashed pumpkin. Regardless of the method, Ben experiences a gruesome end, despite seeking refuge in one of the city’s supposedly safest locations.
4. William Birkin
The Man Who Instigated The Entire Outbreak Loses His Life To The Chaos
In 1998, when looking for someone to blame for the chaos that unfolded in Raccoon City, one should accuse William Birkin. Birkin, driven by a desire for recognition and the quest to discover the ultimate life form, persistently worked on the G-virus, leading ultimately to his arrest.
Following his own self-injection, and contaminating the city’s water supply with the virus, Birkin transformed into a twisted remnant of his previous form, attacking anyone who crossed his path. In the end, after several confrontations with Chris and Claire, he is ultimately subdued and left to decay in the chaos he created.
3. Marvin Branagh
Marvin Does Everything He Can To Assist Leon And Claire Before Succumbing To The Infection
Marvin plays a vital role in supporting Leon and Claire as they embark on their separate quests. Not only does he clarify the overall scenario for both of them, but he also offers guidance on navigating the RPD, and shares that the creatures they encounter are remarkably different from humans.
Marvin regularly talks to the player via the radio, but eventually, his illness takes over, transforming him into a ravenous zombie who wanders the main corridor. Regrettably, Marvin became a casualty of the Raccoon City disaster, yet his legacy endures through the knife he passes to Leon, which Leon later uses in Resident Evil 4.
2. Robert Kendo
The Horrors Of Raccoon City Proved Too Much For The Legendary Gunshop Owner
As a movie critic, in my humble opinion, Robert Kendo’s destiny takes a mysterious turn in the remake of Resident Evil 2. Contrary to the original where we witness the grim fate of Kendo transforming into a zombie feast, this time around, he is seen alongside his now-zombified daughter, leaving the audience pondering the intricacies of their survival.
In the gripping world of the Resident Evil 2 Remake, I found myself immersed in an intriguing alternate tale centered around a character named Kendo. This narrative explores what might have happened if Kendo had chosen to escape from the city. However, it seems that Kendo’s fate in this storyline is bleak, as it strongly suggests he took his own life. Yet, despite this tragic end, the legacy of Kendo lives on within the series, most notably through the iconic weapons bearing his name.
1. Annette Birkin
Annette Gets Swept Up In Her Husband’s Antics And Comes Clean During Her Final Moments
During the Raccoon City incident, many parents were naturally focused on safeguarding their loved ones. However, the Birkins deviated from this norm. While William was wreaking havoc through the city’s underbelly – the sewers and facilities – Annette sought refuge in NEST, contemplating methods to halt the virus’s destructive progression.
Ultimately, Annette does find clarity and shares with Claire the knowledge needed to produce the DEVIL serum for vaccinating Sherry. Tragically, though, Annette’s daughter escapes unharmed while Annette herself perishes from injuries inflicted by her mutated spouse, missing out on witnessing the aftermath of the outbreak.
