Despite being lively and cheerful, Claire Redfield from the Resident Evil universe isn’t universally liked, even though her profession might explain this fact. However, there are still a few characters that find fault with her. While it’s clear that Claire is essentially compassionate and considerate, not everyone perceives her in the same light. Some view her as nothing more than an annoying disturber, a persistent annoyance, or someone who undeservedly garners praise from others.
Without a doubt, numerous characters from this cherished video game series have expressed deep-seated dislike towards our beloved protagonist, Claire. But what factors fuel such intense animosity? Let’s delve into which Resident Evil personalities can be classified as ‘haters’ of Claire and explore the reasons behind their unfavorable opinions.
7. Alfred Ashford
Alfred Grows More Annoyed At Claire’s Existence The More She Learns About Him
In the video game Code Veronica, upon initially appearing before Claire, Alfred waves his sniper rifle erratically around the room and taunts the intruder of his palace, asserting that her life will soon be over. However, as the story unfolds, and Claire starts unearthing the atrocities committed by Alfred on Rockfort Island, he grows increasingly agitated by her presence, particularly when she disrupts him while he is dressing up as his sister, thus revealing his most guarded secret.
If it weren’t for Claire’s disruptive actions on Rockfort Island, Alfred could have lived his dream life of solitude and devotion to Alexia without interruption. However, due to Claire’s chaos, Alfred found himself compelled to intervene, which in turn sparked a deep-seated animosity towards the Redfield who disrupted his peaceful existence.
6. Ron Davis
A Senator Who’s High-And-Mighty Attitude Made Him Despise The Legendary Claire Redfield
- First Appearance: Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)
In simpler terms, Senator Ron Davis is portrayed as a timid character in the computer-generated film “Resident Evil Degeneration.” At the start of the narrative, he encounters Claire during a zombie outbreak at an airport. Despite Claire frequently coming to his aid, Davis’ arrogant and self-centered demeanor causes him to look down on Claire, often making derogatory remarks towards her, much like how he treats Leon later in the movie.
Yet, it is the revelation that Davis colluded with the film’s primary antagonist, Downing, in illegal insider trading, which transforms his dislike into intense hatred. Had it not been for Claire, who exposed Davis by intercepting Downing and thwarting his schemes, Davis would have made off with a substantial amount of money. Fortunately, Davis eventually faces the consequences of his actions, thanks to the joint efforts of Leon and Claire.
5. Alexia Ashford
Alexia Hated The Sight Of Claire; One Half Of What She Calls The “Genetically Inferior Siblings”
In truth, throughout the storyline of Code Veronica, Alexia doesn’t have many interactions with Claire. However, when they do exchange words, it’s clear that Alexia isn’t fond of Claire. This disdain is particularly apparent towards the game’s end, during a meeting where Alexia calls Claire and Chris “genetically inferior siblings.” This implies that she resents their attempts to belittle her and her brother.
Upon Alexia’s return from a prolonged sleep, she aimed to rebuild her family’s reputation. However, it was Claire, with some assistance from Chris, who thwarted her ambition to transform into a malevolent power-seeker as she had envisioned.
4. Frederic Downing
Claire Would Be The One To Stop Downing From Becoming A Filthy Rich Black Market Dealer
- First Appearance: Resident Evil Degeneration (2008)
Despite Frederick Downing’s attempts to win over Claire in the film “Resident Evil Degeneration,” his efforts ultimately lead to his downfall when she discovers he orchestrated most of the terror events in the movie. In reality, Downing was clandestinely selling viruses on the black market to the highest bidder, showing little regard for the casualties that resulted from these sales.
After understanding his real motives as they grew more familiar with him, Claire and Leon confront Downing at the end of the movie, compelling him to surrender, thus thwarting all his plans. Given that Downing was on the verge of amassing immense wealth and power, it’s understandable that he would resent Claire intensely after she figured out his true schemes. However, it’s undoubtedly a positive outcome that she did, considering how perilous this individual proved to be.
3. Annette Birkin
Annette Would Temporarily Despise Claire For Being A Better Motherly Figure To Sherry
In the game “Resident Evil 2”, Annette appears as a character who seems rather detached and disillusioned. This is likely due to her husband transforming into a horrifying mutant and causing chaos in the city, as well as her daughter, Sherry, going missing. Furthermore, when it comes to Claire’s storyline, Annette expresses strong resentment towards Claire taking care of her own daughter, Sherry, voicing her displeasure on multiple occasions.
Although Annette often appeared to be an unsympathetic mother figure towards Sherry during most of the outbreak, her animosity towards Claire at that time was likely fueled by jealousy. However, as Annette eventually recognized that Claire could be their only hope against William, she softened her stance towards her. Initially, there was a palpable tension between them.
2. Dr. Antonio Taylor
Antonio Taylor’s Misinformed View Of TerraSave Caused Him To Express His Frustration Towards Claire In Death Island
- First Appearance: Resident Evil Death Island (2023)
In the narrative, it’s TerraSave – an organization that combats bio-terrorism, where Claire becomes a member post-Resident Evil 2 – that has managed to rescue countless lives due to their efforts. However, not everyone holds them in high regard, with Antonio Taylor serving as a notable exception. In the Resident Evil: Death Island setting, he is one of the few survivors on Alcatraz. Upon discovering Claire and her ties to TerraSave, Taylor swiftly accuses her and the organization of triggering the Harvardville Airport attack, an event portrayed in the Degeneration CG film.
In the Resident Evil universe, Taylor gradually gains a slight respect for Claire after she attends to his injuries, but he’s not an exception; many characters harbor resentment towards Claire because of their misguided perceptions about TerraSave, an organization that has been unfairly accused of immoral actions on numerous occasions.
1. Chief Irons
Irons Hated Claire For Desperately Trying To Stop His Plans Of Kidnapping Sherry
In the heart-pounding world of Resident Evil 2, I, as Claire, navigate through the chaos-ridden streets of Raccoon City. Among the survivors I cross paths with, there’s a particularly chilling character – Irons, the twisted chief constable of the R.P.D. His demeanor is brutal and his actions are downright sickening. As I push to save Sherry from his grasp, our relationship takes a turn for the worse, and he develops an intense dislike for me.
In essence, Irons coveted Sherry’s locket due to its G-Virus sample, but he might have also viewed her as a means to secure his exit from the city. If Claire tried to foil his schemes, Irons would react with considerable hostility, particularly in the remake where it becomes evident how deeply he despises her.
