Fans of the Resident Evil series are speculating that Sherry Birkin, a character from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 6, might return in the new game, Resident Evil Requiem. Resident Evil Requiem was initially announced with Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of a character from the older Outbreak games, as a playable character. Capcom has now confirmed that Leon S. Kennedy will also be a main playable character in the game.
Leon Kennedy is a fan favorite in the Resident Evil series, so it’s expected that Capcom would include him in Requiem. The story of Resident Evil Requiem connects directly to the original Raccoon City disaster where Leon first fought the creatures created by Umbrella, making his return essential. Currently, Leon and Alyssa Ashcroft are the only confirmed returning characters for Resident Evil Requiem, though Sherry Birkin may also appear.
Evidence That Sherry Birkin is in Resident Evil Requiem
A Twitter user named Waleed noticed the character Leon speaks to in the Resident Evil Requiem Game Awards 2025 trailer sounds like Sherry Birkin, matching her voice from Resident Evil 6. Since both Leon and Sherry work for the anti-bioterrorism organization DSO, it’s likely Sherry will be involved in Requiem.
As a big fan, I’ve been thinking about how cool it would be to see Sherry Birkin in the new Resident Evil Requiem game, especially since it connects to the Raccoon City disaster we saw in Resident Evil 2. And honestly, along with Sherry and Leon, it would be amazing to have Claire Redfield and Ada Wong show up too – they were both such key characters in Resident Evil 2! Right now, Capcom hasn’t said anything about them being in Requiem, but I’m still hoping for a surprise appearance from at least one of them.
Now that the release of Resident Evil Requiem is almost here, Capcom likely won’t share many more big details. They’ll want to keep some things a surprise for fans. We can expect some announcements before the February 27th launch, but it remains to be seen what Capcom will reveal and where they’ll show off the game.
Capcom often holds events to announce its new games, and we might see Resident Evil Requiem revealed at one of them. Xbox also has a presentation in January, which would be a great opportunity to showcase the game. Nintendo usually does a Nintendo Direct in February, so that’s another possibility. Regardless of where we hear about it, the Resident Evil Requiem release date is just around the corner – fans will be able to play the game in about two months, even if Capcom doesn’t announce anything further.
