Producer Masato Kumazawa has dismissed online rumors about Leon Kennedy’s role in Resident Evil Requiem as false. While he hasn’t completely denied Leon might appear in the game, he’s encouraging fans to be skeptical of unconfirmed information they find online.
The Resident Evil series first appeared in 1996 and has captivated horror game enthusiasts for almost three decades, growing to include eight core games and numerous spin-offs. The ninth main installment, Resident Evil Requiem, is scheduled for release on current-generation consoles and PC on February 27, 2026. While the series doesn’t focus on a single hero, many memorable characters have been playable over the years. Among the most popular is Leon Kennedy, who first appeared in Resident Evil 2 as a rookie police officer and later became a government agent.
Resident Evil Requiem Producer Debunks Leon Kennedy Rumors
Rumors about Leon Kennedy appearing in Resident Evil Requiem have been circulating since May, gaining traction over the summer and suggesting he’d have a major role. However, the game’s producer recently clarified things in an interview with Stevivor, dismissing many of those claims. Kumazawa advised fans not to believe everything they see, especially information not directly from Capcom. He explained that new AI technology makes it simple to create fake images and videos, which can easily mislead people eager for details about the game. He understands fans’ desire for information but cautioned that this technology can create a lot of confusion about what is actually true.
Kumazawa specifically addressed a rumor from September claiming Leon would have a redesigned, more weathered appearance in Resident Evil Requiem, including an eye patch, and that this might be an optional costume available as downloadable content. He directly stated this information was false, but also clarified that he can’t confirm anything unless Capcom officially announces it.
Capcom has revealed a lot more about Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil: Outbreak and the main character in the new game. A trailer released in August showed a complicated family dynamic. Although many Resident Evil games let you play as different characters, Capcom hasn’t confirmed whether Leon will be playable, and the game comes out in just three months.
