Resident Evil Requiem Director Talks Leon’s ‘Ruthless Anger’

Resident Evil Requiem stars an older, more seasoned Leon Kennedy. The game, the ninth major installment in the Resident Evil series, will delve into how his previous experiences have affected him, leaving him jaded and filled with anger.

In a recent interview with DenNicoFamiGamer, the director of the game, Koshi Nakanishi of Capcom, explained that Leon has become more jaded after years of battling the undead. Nakanishi described Leon as radiating a “ruthless anger.”

The game will feature a return of the character Leon, and the developers spent a lot of time considering how he would develop and what his motivations would be, according to Nakanishi (via Games Radar+).

Leon Has An Ax to Grind in Resident Evil Requiem

One of the clearest ways Leon’s personality has evolved is shown in his combat style. In the new game, he primarily uses an ax, which represents the changes he’s gone through.

Nakanishi hopes players will think about Leon’s motivations and why he’s behaving so aggressively and angrily. He wants them to consider what’s changed with this character, who they’ve known for over twenty years.

We want players to watch Leon fight and think, ‘Wow, this guy is brutal!’ – that’s the level of intensity we’re going for with his combat style. He swings his ax so fiercely it might even make you question his sanity, and that’s exactly what we want.

Resident Evil Requiem is coming to PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series on February 27th. You can find more details about the game at this link.
