Resident Evil Requiem Leak Reveals Leon Kennedy Return

A new leak, this time from the PlayStation Store, strongly suggests Leon S. Kennedy will be back in Resident Evil Requiem. While fans have speculated about his return for some time, a recently revealed key art image shows Kennedy standing behind Grace Ashcroft, the game’s main character, confirming these rumors about his appearance in next year’s Resident Evil Requiem.

The next main installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil Requiem, takes place about 30 years after the events that destroyed Raccoon City in 1998. While there’s been speculation about multiple playable characters, Capcom confirms the game will primarily follow Grace Ashcroft, an introverted FBI analyst driven by her work following a personal loss. Gameplay will deliver the classic horror fans expect, but with a new feature: players can choose to experience the game in either first-person or third-person. The default view is first-person, but those who prefer the third-person perspective of games like Resident Evil 2 and 3 can easily change it in the game’s options.

Capcom previously stated that Leon Kennedy wouldn’t be the main character in Resident Evil Requiem because his bravery doesn’t fit the game’s horror theme. They wanted a protagonist who starts as a scared character and grows throughout the story. However, despite this, leaks have suggested Leon Kennedy will still be in the game. Back in October, the PlayStation Store briefly listed a costume for him as part of the Deluxe Edition. Now, it seems the store has leaked another detail – an image featuring Leon Kennedy.

PlayStation Store Leaks Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem

It’s now pretty much confirmed that Leon Kennedy will be in Resident Evil Requiem. A new promotional image for the 2026 game was accidentally leaked on the PlayStation Store, clearly showing Leon S. Kennedy standing behind Grace. According to Twitter user and leaker Dusk Golem (confirmed by IGN), anyone who pre-ordered the Standard Edition and tries to pre-load the game on PlayStation 5 will see the image along with a countdown to the game’s release.

Capcom hasn’t officially responded to the leak, but it’s widely believed that Leon Kennedy will be back in a new game. Kennedy is arguably the most beloved main character in the entire Resident Evil series. He last appeared as a playable character in Resident Evil 6 back in 2012, meaning this potential return in Requiem would be his first new appearance in fourteen years (not counting the remakes).

The upcoming game, Resident Evil Requiem, hinted at bringing back familiar faces, but producer Masato Kumazawa cautioned fans not to get their hopes up. He initially dismissed rumors of Leon Kennedy’s appearance as false, but it now appears he was deliberately misleading fans to keep the surprise. PlayStation seems to have accidentally revealed Kennedy’s return.
