Resident Evil Requiem Leak Shows Victor Gideon’s Alternate Transformation

MAJOR Spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem ahead

Recent leaks from the upcoming game, Resident Evil Requiem, have revealed previously unseen images of Dr. Victor Gideon’s last transformation. Gideon is the primary villain and final boss of the game.

In the world of Resident Evil, Gideon used to be a researcher for the Umbrella Corporation, working on the creation of the Tyrant. After Umbrella collapsed and Raccoon City was ruined, he purchased the Rhodes Hill Chronic Health Care Center to continue his human experiments. He became fixated on finding the Elpis Project, a final undertaking by Spencer before his death. Gideon also injected himself with the Nemesis parasite, giving him the ability to transform into a monstrous boss in the final battle of Resident Evil Requiem.

The second phase of the Gideon boss fight in Resident Evil Requiem was already frightening, but recently discovered concept art reveals Capcom originally envisioned him differently. A Twitter user shared images showing early designs where Gideon’s first form had only one wing, similar to Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. His final transformation was also planned to be much more monstrous, resembling a chimera covered in snakes – a design choice that would have explained his forked tongue and scaly outfit seen throughout the game.

Following a tweet by umesooooo, many fans of Resident Evil Requiem shared their preference for Gideon’s originally planned final transformation, feeling it better fit his snake-themed character. Others believed turning him into a Nemesis was a stronger choice. Some fans are hoping this snake transformation will appear in the game’s upcoming DLC, and are speculating about Gideon’s potential return, though Capcom hasn’t revealed the DLC’s story details yet.

With the Resident Evil series continuing to grow, it’s common for Capcom to develop several character designs before settling on the final versions. It’s understandable that fans were disappointed Gideon wasn’t transformed into a snake monster, as these kinds of changes happen frequently during development. For instance, early concept art for Resident Evil Village showed Ada Wong was originally planned to appear, but she was likely cut to keep the story centered on Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield.
