Okay, so I’m super hyped for Resident Evil Requiem, and a new trailer just dropped showing off how good it’ll look with Nvidia graphics. But more importantly, it gave us a peek at some gameplay in a city we haven’t seen before! People are thinking this could mean the rumors about a more open-world style for the new Resi game are true. We already know we’ll be playing as both Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy, and we’re definitely going back to Raccoon City, but everyone’s been wondering how much of the game world we’ll actually get to explore. This trailer seems to hint that the environments might be way bigger than anything we’ve seen in a Resident Evil game before, which is awesome!
Resident Evil Requiem will bring players back to familiar locations from previous games, and introduce a new area: the Wrenwood Hotel, where Grace’s mother was killed. The exact location of the hotel is currently unknown, leading fans to believe it might be in a previously unseen city. While earlier trailers showed Grace investigating outside of Raccoon City, a recent scene in the Nvidia trailer suggests the game will feature a much larger and more expansive world for players to explore compared to past Resident Evil titles.
Resident Evil Requiem Nvidia Trailer Teases Potential Open Level Design
The new Nvidia trailer for Resident Evil Requiem highlights the game’s impressive graphics, featuring 4K Path Tracing and DLSS 4 with improved multi-frame generation for a better visual experience. Notably, the trailer shows Grace walking through a rainy city, a scene previously seen in short clips from other trailers. Leaks suggested the game would have large levels for Leon and an open-world design for Grace, and this trailer seems to confirm the latter with a glimpse of Grace exploring the city. Capcom has also been promoting the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT that Leon drives in the game. If rumors about the open level design are true, players may be able to actually drive the car around and enjoy it, rather than just seeing it in cutscenes.
Whether the new game will feature expansive, open-world areas for Grace and larger levels for Leon is currently unconfirmed, so fans shouldn’t assume it will happen. However, the trailers have showcased large environments, suggesting Capcom might be moving towards a more open design. While many players loved the confined spaces of locations like the Spencer Mansion and Baker Estate, others hope Resident Evil Village hinted at bigger settings becoming a regular part of the series. If the trailers and rumors are accurate, Resident Evil Requiem could finally offer a more expansive view of the Resident Evil universe.
Image via Capcom Excitement is building for the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, especially with the return of popular character Leon Kennedy, the setting of Raccoon City, and the infamous Umbrella Corporation. While some are unsure about the game’s mix of scary, story-driven sections with a character named Grace and fast-paced action as Leon, both longtime fans and newcomers anticipate another major installment in the Resident Evil series. Resident Evil Requiem will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 27th.
