Resident Evil’s Leaked 3-Year Plan for Future Games Carries a Huge Red Flag

As a huge Resident Evil fan, I’m so excited to see the series back with Resident Evil Requiem! It’s the ninth main game, which is awesome. Though, let’s be real, there have been tons of Resident Evil games over the years – with remakes, side stories, and smaller releases keeping us busy between the big ones.

The Resident Evil series has evolved significantly, especially with the success of the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake, which helped solidify its place in the survival horror genre. While these ambitious remakes are important, traditional sequels like Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, and the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem are still crucial for keeping the series fresh and moving the story forward. According to reliable insider Dusk Golem, Capcom plans to continue balancing remakes with new games. However, it seems the company is overlooking another important type of Resident Evil title – spin-offs – which have historically expanded the game’s story and allowed for unique creative approaches.

Remember to be skeptical of any leaks you come across. While Dusk Golem has accurately predicted information about Resident Evil before, they haven’t always been right, so don’t assume everything they say is true.

Resident Evil’s Three-Year Plan Doesn’t Include Spin-Off Games

As a huge Resident Evil fan, I’ve been following Dusk Golem closely, and they’ve shared some exciting news about what Capcom has planned for the future! Here’s what they’re saying about upcoming games and when we might expect them…

  • Resident Evil Requiem — February 27, 2026
  • Resident Evil Requiem DLC — TBA 2026
  • Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake — 2027
  • Resident Evil Zero Remake — 2028
  • Resident Evil 10 — 2029

The new game, Resident Evil Requiem, is about to launch and is getting a lot of attention. It’s likely we’ll also see downloadable content added later, as previous games in the series have received expansions. For a while now, rumors have circulated about remakes of Code Veronica and Zero, with reliable sources like Dusk Golem suggesting they are in development. While a 2029 release for the next mainline game (potentially not titled Resident Evil 10) seems ambitious, it’s still possible.

One thing missing from this collection is spin-off games, which were once a key part of how Capcom released Resident Evil titles. Even on the original PlayStation, Capcom released Resident Evil Survivor, an older first-person shooter with clunky controls that was quite different from other Resident Evil games. Survivor was followed by several popular spin-offs, like the Revelations games, which some fans consider to be as important as the main Resident Evil series because of their strong stories and high quality.

Resident Evil’s Spin-Off Drought Is Understandable, but Still Frustrating

The last single-player Resident Evil spin-off was 2016’s Umbrella Corps, which wasn’t successful with critics or players. If you include games that are only multiplayer, the most recent was Resident Evil Re:Verse, and it didn’t do much better. Some believe these games failed because they focused too much on action and multiplayer, but even if that’s true, Capcom might have simply concluded that people don’t want Resident Evil spin-offs at all. However, many fans actually do enjoy them, so Capcom should consider making more in the future.

Resident Evil Spin-Offs Have Been Vital to the IP’s Overall Health and Richness

While not every spin-off is a hit, the Resident Evil side games often add important story details and gameplay ideas. For example, Resident Evil Outbreak from 2003 featured characters separate from the main series, but it was recently revealed that one of those characters, Alyssa Ashcroft, had a daughter – Grace Ashcroft. Grace went on to become a key character in Resident Evil Requiem, alongside Leon Kennedy. This shows how Outbreak, even after more than twenty years, continues to enrich the Resident Evil universe. Similarly, games like The Umbrella Chronicles expand on the backstory of characters like Wesker and his role in the main story.

The various spin-off games in the Resident Evil series haven’t just added to the story; they’ve also been a place to try out new gameplay ideas. Games like Chronicles with its light-gun shooting, or Resident Evil Gaiden with its top-down view, allowed the developers to experiment. In fact, it’s possible that games like Resident Evil Survivor, The Umbrella Chronicles, and The Darkside Chronicles paved the way for the first-person perspective seen in RE7 and RE Village.

Considering these points, and the fact that spin-off games are often less expensive to make, Capcom should focus on creating them again. While a recent statement suggests it might take a while, we could potentially see new Resident Evil side stories emerge in the 2030s.
