Resistance 4 Rejected by PlayStation Despite Insomniac’s Pitch

Summary

  • Insomniac pitched a fourth Resistance game to PlayStation, but it was rejected due to timing and market opportunities.
  • The founder Ted Price hopes to see Resistance 4 in the future, expressing passion for continuing the story.
  • Insomniac currently focuses on Marvel and Ratchet & Clank titles, leaving little room for a Resistance revival.

Ted Price, founder and president of Insomniac Games, has shared that they proposed a fourth major installment for the Resistance series, but it was turned down. The Resistance series held significant importance during the early days of the PlayStation 3, but since then, no new games have been released, with the last one being Resistance: Burning Skies on the PlayStation Vita in 2012.

Back in 2006, I was thrilled to be a part of the PlayStation 3’s grand debut with the first installment of the Resistance series, “Resistance: Fall of Man”. It shared the stage with heavyweights like “Call of Duty 3” and “Marvel: Ultimate Alliance”. Being an avid fan of first-person shooters, I was excited to see it labeled as a potential “Halo” slayer. However, despite its promising start, it never quite managed to live up to that lofty title. Nevertheless, it proved itself as a resounding success and spawned two mainline sequels in 2008 and 2011. After wrapping up the Resistance trilogy, Insomniac Games moved on to other exciting projects, including “Sunset Overdrive” and more “Ratchet & Clank” adventures.

During the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Ted Price (former CEO of Insomniac) disclosed that they had proposed an idea for a fourth installment of “Resistance”, which they submitted to PlayStation. Regrettably, this pitch was rejected. According to him, it was a fantastic concept, but due to issues with timing and market opportunities, it didn’t succeed. However, the passion of many Insomniac team members to continue the story played a significant role in its creation.

Insomniac Wanted to Make Resistance 4

After Insomniac Games’ Price announced his departure in March, host Greg Miller inquired whether fans could anticipate a potential fourth installment of Resistance, even if it isn’t currently being developed. Price expressed hopefulness, stating, ” frankly, I really do hope so. I’d love to see the narrative advance; it holds a special place in my heart, there are so many intriguing aspects about it.” However, it appears that no active plans are underway to revive Resistance at present.

Despite the pause in the production of Resistance games, Insomniac Games continues to be dedicated to their current projects under development. Recalling the significant Insomniac leak from December 2023, there are whispers that the studio is currently working on a number of Marvel titles, such as Venom, Spider-Man 3, and Wolverine, in addition to the already-revealed Ratchet & Clank title. This leaves little to no possibility for a Resistance revival in the near future.
