Resonance: Plague Tale Legacy Announcement Leaks

The Plague Tale series stands out for its compelling narratives, deep emotional impact, intricate game layouts, and immersive environments. These stories unfold in the backdrop of the devastating Black Death plague outbreak of the mid-14th Century, primarily following the journey of Amicia De Rune as she endeavors to protect her younger brother Hugo.

It seems that things might shift quite quickly following an apparent accidental leak of a mini-trailer on the social media account of publisher Focus Entertainment, which was later taken down.

A New Female Protagonist?

In that brief sneak peek, I find myself traversing what seems like Morocco or Algeria. A fresh character, a girl, is seen sprinting and scrapping through diverse cityscapes and countryside landscapes.

Instead of following the traditional sequence, it seems the game might adopt a spin-off style more so. A hint for this change is the title “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy,” which doesn’t feature the main series name prominently.

As a gamer, I’ve been buzzing with excitement over on Reddit, where some theories have emerged suggesting that Sophia, the beloved ally from A Plague Tale: Requiem, might be getting an origin story revealed. The character design and visual similarities are striking, which has got me hopeful for a deeper dive into her backstory, especially since she was such a cherished companion during gameplay.

For individuals unfamiliar with A Plague Tale: Requiem, Sophia exhibits a self-reliant, rogue-like personality compared to Amicia, and she commands a pirate smuggling vessel known as the Sea Scorpion. This suggests that the game’s map may be expansive and rich in exploration opportunities, possibly larger than what was offered in previous installments.

In the short teaser, she was seen in diverse settings ranging from lush jungles, sandy beaches, to urban landscapes boasting Northern African architectural styles.

It’s unclear why the trailer was released prematurely, but there’s a strong possibility that we might get an official announcement and more updates during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, June 8th.

There are rumors that a third installment in the Plague Tale series might be on its way, as suggested by a job posting from 2023.

The Plague Tale series is unfortunately not getting enough recognition, making me delighted to learn there will be more coming. However, I fervently hope that Asobo Studio won’t veer too far from what made Innocence and Requiem standout—a gripping narrative with strong writing and an emotional pull.
