Retroid Issues Official Statement on Soulja Boy Handheld

Retroid has responded to claims that rapper Soulja Boy is selling handheld gaming consoles that look very similar to their own, but are being marketed as his own brand. This isn’t the first time Soulja Boy has been accused of taking existing products, rebranding them, and then selling them as if they were original.

Back in 2018, Soulja Boy had to stop selling his gaming consoles when Nintendo threatened to sue him. His consoles appeared to include software that let people play classic Nintendo games without permission. He tried again in 2021, seemingly rebranding an existing handheld console called the Retroid Pocket as his own. Now, in 2025, Soulja Boy is releasing another handheld console that looks very similar to other Retroid models.

Retroid Calls Out Soulja Boy for Rebranding and Reselling Its Handhelds

Retroid has confirmed that Soulja Boy does not have the right to sell their handheld consoles as if they were his own. A company representative told Retro Dodo that Soulja Boy’s “SouljaGame Flip” is a rebranded version of Retroid’s patented Pocket Flip 2, sold without permission. While currently listed on Soulja Boy‘s website for around $200, reports suggest it originally cost over $400.

The SouljaGame Flip and the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 are very similar, offering almost the same features and specs. So far, Soulja Boy hasn’t made any official comments about the device.

Retro Dodo reports that the rapper Soulja Boy also appears to have copied Retroid’s Retroid Pocket 4 handheld console. However, this version is no longer available on Soulja Boy’s website, suggesting it’s been removed from sale. Pictures that are still circulating show the copy looks almost identical to the original Retroid Pocket 4, making it hard to distinguish between them.

Okay, so I’ve been following the Soulja Boy console thing, and it’s wild. He says he sold over five million of his SouljaGame consoles back in 2018, even though they were pretty expensive. Honestly, I’m skeptical, but if true, that’s huge! Now he’s got this new one, the SouljaGame Flip, and I’m really curious to see if it’ll actually take off. I’m also watching to see what Retroid does about all this, because it’s a bit of a messy situation.
