The highly anticipated movie adaptation of Konami’s Silent Hill 2, titled Return to Silent Hill, initially looked promising with its trailers and screenshots. Pyramid Head, a key character, seemed suitably menacing. However, recent developments suggest the film may not live up to expectations despite the apparent effort put into its creation.
The 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2 revitalized the series, bringing back fond memories for fans of the original games from the late 90s and early 2000s. Meanwhile, Silent Hill f explored a fresh and interesting path. Plans for a new Silent Hill movie, titled Return to Silent Hill, have unfortunately stalled.
The Reviews Are In For Return To Silent Hill, And It’s Not Good
The new movie Return to Silent Hill is receiving very negative reviews, currently holding a score of only 6% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 17 reviews. While more reviews may be published, it seems unlikely the score will improve, and could even decrease further.
Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of people say this new movie just didn’t live up to the game. Some called it a huge letdown, while others said it looked cool with the spooky vibes, but it was totally predictable and just didn’t deliver any real scares. Basically, it didn’t add anything new or exciting to the story we already knew and loved.
This makes it the worst-reviewed Silent Hill movie in the franchise, and this isn’t saying much.
The 2006 film starring Sean Bean, while not critically acclaimed (scoring 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, but still enjoyable for many), is a grand production. However, the 2012 sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation, was much less well-received, earning a very low 8% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Currently, Return to Silent Hill is performing better than all previous films in the series. This success will likely impact overall box office revenue and could determine whether any further Silent Hill movies are made.
