During each marriage, he strictly prohibited his wives from smiling after their weddings, claiming that their faces would be spoiled by the expression.

Despite Natsuki Subaru’s professed unconditional love for Emilia, it’s clear that he shares some blame in this situation. In the first season, Subaru develops feelings for Emilia as he strives to save both her and himself from impending death at Elsa’s hands. Afterward, Subaru makes every effort to express his love to Emilia, a tactic often referred to as “love-bombing.” In simpler terms, he tries to win her affection by tugging at her heartstrings.
