  • Rob Liefeld publicly called for Kevin Feige to step down as head of Marvel Studios.
  • Liefeld claims Feige snubbed him at Deadpool & Wolverine premiere, suggesting strained relationship.

Rob Liefeld, the mind behind Deadpool, has openly expressed his belief that Marvel Studios could benefit from fresh leadership and he’s been quite vocal about it. Following the noticeable dip in box office earnings during the second weekend of “Captain America: Brave New World”, Liefeld publicly urged Kevin Feige to relinquish his position as head of Marvel Studios.

The movie “Captain America: Brave New World,” produced by Disney and Marvel, is experiencing a decline in ticket sales at the box office, despite limited competition during a rather tranquil winter weekend. Following its strong opening of $100 million over the extended Presidents Day holiday, the film’s second-weekend earnings dropped dramatically by 68%, generating only $28.3 million from 4,105 cinemas across North America. However, it still managed to hold onto the number one position at the box office, earning a total of $141 million domestically and $289.4 million worldwide, according to Variety.

Following the substantial decrease, Rob Liefeld expressed his concern after learning that Brave New World earned only $7.2 million on its second Friday at the box office, representing an 82.4% decline compared to its opening day. In response, he bluntly declared, “It’s time for Feige to step down from the pitcher’s mound; he’s exhausted,” he wrote on X (previously Twitter), implying that the MCU is in trouble and Disney should consider dismissing Kevin Feige. His remarks soon gained popularity, with former X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo, who had a controversial departure from Marvel, reacting with a straightforward but ominous comment, “Oh dear, this is troublesome.”

Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Calls for Kevin Feige to Be Fired Amid Marvel’s Struggles

It seems that Rob Liefeld’s issues with Marvel and Kevin Feige extend beyond box office figures. In a recent episode of his podcast, Robservations with Rob Liefeld, he expressed his feelings of being overlooked at the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine. Liefeld claimed that Feige ignored him on the red carpet and was not invited to the afterparty, an act he felt was deliberate given his involvement in previous Deadpool film events. Furthermore, photos showing him alongside the film’s creative team mysteriously disappeared from press releases. On the podcast, Liefeld asserted that these actions were intended to humiliate, lessen, and defeat him. He also stated emphatically that, in his personal experience, Kevin Feige does not treat comic book creators with respect.

Apart from his refusal to attend the red carpet event, Liefeld asserted that he contacted Marvel before the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, asking for a specific credit in the film similar to how Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were recognized at the start of the Christopher Reeve-starring Superman movie. He stressed that his goal wasn’t financial gain, but rather increased promotional opportunities. According to Liefeld, Marvel did not respond to his request, and later his agents informed him that executives were unhappy with his inquiry.
