In a recent conversation, Robert Kirkman, the brain behind Invincible, revealed an impressive lineup of playable characters that are expected to join the fray in Invincible VS, the much-anticipated 3v3 tag team fighter inspired by both the comics and animated show bearing the same name. This exciting project is being handled by Skybound Games and Quarter Up and is tentatively set for a 2026 launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
Invincible VS initially commenced as a crowdfunding endeavor in 2024, focusing on developing an AAA fighting game with a “thrilling bloodbath” theme. Surpassing its initial goal of $50K by over tenfold, the campaign amassed an impressive total of $687K before concluding further fundraising. Exactly a year later, on June 9, 2025, at the Xbox Summer Showcase, Invincible VS was officially unveiled. The accompanying trailer introduced Omni-Man, Lucan, Thula, Atom Eve, Rex Splode, and Mark Grayson as playable characters. Most recently, a new gameplay trailer featuring Battle Beast was displayed at the San Diego Comic-Con, offering fans a sneak peek of what’s to be expected.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Robert Kirkman shared some exciting news about the roster of playable characters in the game Invincible VS. He mentioned that it’s going to be extremely exciting and unconventional. Although he tried to avoid spoilers, he hinted that fans wondering if a specific character will appear in Invincible VS can relax, as there’s nearly a 100% chance they’ll be included in the game. Kirkman also confirmed that this is just the beginning of the official reveals for the title, implying that there are many more announcements to come before its full release.
Invincible VS Creator Hints at Massive Roster for Upcoming Fighting Game
Kirkman showed his delight upon hearing about Battle Beast’s inclusion in the title, stating that he considers this character as one of the essential figures for the game. In essence, he implied that a fighting game based on Invincible wouldn’t be complete without Battle Beast. Furthermore, he hinted at the possibility of other strong characters from the Invincible universe joining the playable roster as well.
Given the high number of characters eligible for inclusion, it’s unlikely that all of them will be part of the roster on the initial release. Instead, it seems like “Invincible VS” might adopt a phased release approach, gradually introducing fighters after the launch through downloadable content (DLC). Furthermore, it’s important to mention that a significant number of playable characters in a fighting game necessitates meticulous balancing, which is an aspect that “Invincible VS” will need to address if they decide to follow this approach.
As a die-hard fan, I was eagerly waiting for an update on the release date for Invincible VS. Recently, during an interview, Robert Kirkman was asked to spill the beans, but all he did was drop a cryptic hint: “It’s sooner than you may think.” With the previously confirmed release window set for 2026, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this could mean a Q1 or Q2 2026 launch. Fingers crossed!
