Harmonix has shared that Rock Band 4 will no longer be available for purchase starting October 5th. This news signifies the end of the line for Rock Band 4, the most recent game in a series that greatly impacted the rhythm game world, leading to four main games and numerous spin-off titles.
Launched in October 2015 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Rock Band 4 features well-known songs like “Your Love” by The Outfield and “Carry on My Wayward Son” by Kansas. This fourth installment in the series includes different ways to play, like Rivals, where you can collaborate with friends to showcase your abilities, and Rockudrama, a unique playable documentary that follows your journey as a musician and band. Rock Band 4 is a great choice for rhythm game enthusiasts, but interested players should purchase it quickly.
Rock Band 4 Will Be Delisted on October 5
Harmonix announced on the official Rock Band 4 Discord page that the game will no longer be available for purchase digitally on PlayStation and Xbox starting October 5th. The developers explained this is because the licenses for the original soundtrack are expiring. This soundtrack includes popular songs like “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes, “I Miss the Misery” by Halestorm, and “Hail to the King” by Avenged Sevenfold. However, players who already own Rock Band 4 will still be able to enjoy the game and access all its content on any compatible device. Importantly, any downloadable content (DLC) purchased for Harmonix’s rhythm game will also remain available in the player’s library.

Besides the 65 songs originally included with Rock Band 4, players can enjoy a library of over 3,000 tracks that have been added over time. This includes popular songs like “The Kill” by 30 Seconds to Mars, “Take on Me” by a-ha, and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Rock Band 4 stopped adding new downloadable content (DLC) in 2024, with “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling, “Thank You” by Dido, and “Send Me on My Way” by Rusted Root being the final additions to the game.

Although this is unfortunate news, players who are still eager to play can buy the Rock Band 4 Rivals Bundle for $9.99 from the PlayStation and Xbox stores. Also, fans of rhythm games should watch for the comeback of RedOctane, the company that created the original Guitar Hero, as they are developing a new game centered around music.
