Dan Houser, promoting his new book, has been discussing the use of AI in gaming. The co-founder of Rockstar Games has talked about how he’s incorporating AI into his latest project, while also expressing some reservations about its overall potential.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming integrated into all aspects of our lives. What started as simple interactions with tools like ChatGPT has quickly expanded to widespread use in areas like gaming. Even industry veterans like Dan Houser, who is working on a new game with Absurd Ventures, are exploring AI, but have found its practical applications to be more limited than expected.
Dan Houser Using AI For New Game At Absurd Ventures

On the Sunday Brunch show, Houser discussed his new book, ‘A Better Paradise,’ which focuses on artificial intelligence and a game developer’s quest to build the ultimate video game.
We’re creating a new game that takes place in the same universe as our previous one, though it will feature a different story. We started development around a year and a half ago, and we anticipate it will take several more years to finish.
One of the creators of Rockstar Games was recently questioned about incorporating artificial intelligence into their next game. He openly discussed its use, but also expressed some reservations about the technology itself.
We’re starting to explore AI, but it’s not as helpful as some companies claim right now. It won’t magically fix everything.
The conversation also touched on how quickly artificial intelligence is developing, and whether its current pace of advancement is unprecedented.
I’ve been following the AI hype, and honestly, it’s a mixed bag. It’s amazing at certain things, but it definitely can’t do everything people claim. It feels like ‘AI’ is just a catch-all term for what computing could do someday, and right now it’s mostly potential. Everyone’s talking about how it’ll solve all our problems, but it’s not really delivering on a lot of that yet. It’s like, if we just invest enough money, maybe it will eventually, but we’re not there right now.
