Rockstar Games, the creator of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, has confirmed a small fire broke out at its Edinburgh office today. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the studio is still open and working as usual. While Rockstar has offices globally, the Edinburgh location – known as Rockstar North – is the primary development hub for new GTA games.
Gamers have been eagerly awaiting the next Grand Theft Auto game for sixteen years, and all eyes are now on Rockstar. However, the studio recently faced a setback, ending 2025 by laying off over 30 employees accused of leaking confidential details about Grand Theft Auto 6. Reports suggest these employees shared and discussed secret game features in a public online space. This follows a significant leak in September 2022, where nearly 100 videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 were released online after a security breach exposed Rockstar’s internal systems.

Rockstar Games faced another setback today, January 19th, when a small fire broke out at their Edinburgh office. The fire, caused by a problem with the building’s heating system, was reported around 5 AM GMT, and firefighters left the scene by 9:21 AM GMT. Luckily, the building was likely empty at the time. A Rockstar spokesperson confirmed to BNO News that no one was hurt and thanked emergency responders. They also assured fans that the fire won’t delay the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, stating that the studio is still open and everyone is safe.
The extent of the fire damage to the building is still unknown, but it appears to remain structurally sound, and Rockstar employees continued working as usual. According to emergency services, three fire trucks and specialized teams were dispatched to the scene and worked to stabilize any structural issues at the commercial building.
A terminally ill fan is getting a special opportunity thanks to Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. After a Ubisoft developer learned the fan, a lifelong Grand Theft Auto enthusiast, has only months to live, they contacted Rockstar. Take-Two’s CEO responded with some “great news”: the fan will be able to play Grand Theft Auto 6 before it’s officially released later this year. The developer shared this positive update in a now-deleted post.
The release of Grand Theft Auto 6 has been pushed back several times. Originally planned for Fall 2025 after its first trailer in December 2023, the game was then delayed to May 26, 2026. Fans quickly predicted another delay, which Rockstar confirmed in November 2025. Currently, Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. However, given how highly anticipated the game is and Rockstar’s commitment to quality, another delay into 2027 wouldn’t be surprising.
