Rockstar Will Be Investigated, UK Prime Minister Says

The UK Prime Minister wants Rockstar Games investigated over claims that the company unfairly prevented its employees from forming a union.

During a parliamentary session on Wednesday, MP Chris Murray questioned Prime Minister Kier Starmer regarding recent layoffs at Rockstar Games. Murray explained that after speaking with the company, he wasn’t convinced they were adhering to employment law and expressed worries about attempts to discourage unionization.

He followed up by asking Keir Starmer if he believed all businesses, no matter how profitable, should abide by UK employment laws and that all workers should have the freedom to join a union.

Starmer responded by saying that it’s a “deeply concerning case”.

The speaker affirmed that all workers have the right to join a union, and emphasized a commitment to protecting those rights and preventing unfair treatment for union members. They also stated that ministers would review a specific case brought up by Mr. Murray and provide him with updates.

Last October, news broke that Rockstar Games fired more than 30 employees. The employees and the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) immediately accused the company of deliberately trying to weaken the union. However, Rockstar stated the firings were due to serious misconduct, explaining that the employees had been sharing and talking about private, confidential company information.

Shortly after, leaked Discord messages indicated that employees were discussing new company policies and other work-related topics.

TopMob has repeatedly contacted Rockstar Games for a statement regarding these reports, but has not received a response as of today.

As a big Rockstar fan, I’m really concerned about these reports of possible union busting and the fact that the UK government is now looking into it. It’s a tough situation, and I’m curious to hear what others think. I’m planning to share my thoughts and check out what people are saying over on the TopMob Discord – maybe you can join the conversation there too?
