According to confirmation from ASUS, both the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X are set to debut on October 16. This release date announcement aligns with the beginning of Gamescom 2025, providing attendees a chance to experience these upcoming Xbox handhelds firsthand.
Back in June 2023, I got my hands on the initial ROG Ally – a device that ASUS had introduced as a counterpoint to the increasing demand for portable Windows PCs. Fast forward 13 months, and the ROG Ally X was unveiled, boasting enhanced RAM, expanded internal storage, a much larger battery, and other upgrades. Then, at the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft and ASUS surprised us with special Xbox-themed versions of both devices!
Recent ROG Xbox Ally Leak Was Only Partially Correct
The release date for the new handheld devices (ROG Xbox Ally) has been officially confirmed as October 16th at Gamescom 2025. Earlier leaks by Billbil-kun had suggested this date, but he was partially incorrect when he also claimed pre-orders would open on August 20th. Instead, ASUS and Microsoft have announced that pre-order details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

According to ASUS’s confirmation, the new lineup of handheld devices will debut in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Previous leaks suggest that the ROG Xbox Ally and Aly X could retail at €599 and €899 respectively. It remains uncertain if ASUS will stick with similar pricing globally (meaning $599 and $899 in the U.S.) or adjust prices based on market conditions. In the past, ASUS has employed both strategies depending on the product’s nature.

New ROG Xbox Ally Marketing Campaign Stars GTA 5 Actors
During Gamescom, demonstrations of various games will continue until August 24, marking the end of the convention. At the ASUS ROG booth, you’ll find gaming laptops equipped with Nvidia’s RTX 50 Series GPUs, along with other consumer electronics. To celebrate the impending launch of the new ROG Xbox Ally series, ASUS is bringing together actors Ned Luke (Michael De Santa) and Shawn Fonteno (Franklin Clinton), from Grand Theft Auto 5, for another ROG Travel promotional event. This time, Luke takes on the role of a ROG Travel supervisor, while Fonteno portrays a new recruit. These actors are scheduled to appear at ASUS’s Gamescom 2025 booth.
