Rumor: A Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase Could Come This Week

Nintendo is expected to share some news this week, possibly as soon as Thursday, February 5th. Industry sources suggest a Nintendo Direct presentation focused on partner games could be happening. This comes as Nintendo focuses on developing games for its new Switch 2 console, making for a busy start to 2026.

Nintendo kicked off the last week of January with two online presentations. First, on January 25th, they shared a video focused on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, giving fans their first glimpse of Yoshi. Then, on January 29th, a 22-minute Nintendo Direct showcased the upcoming Switch game Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Players eager to see their Mii characters shine in this unique life simulation won’t have to wait long, as the game is scheduled to release on Thursday, April 16th.

A Nintendo Direct All About Third-Party Games Could Arrive Soon

Although we should treat rumors cautiously, several industry experts suggest Nintendo might announce something new this week. Gaming insider NateTheHate mentioned on X that a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase could happen on February 5th. While an earlier rumor pointed to February 10th, both VGC and GameXplain have supported the new date and the idea of a Partner Showcase. The last Partner Showcase was on July 31, 2025, and lasted 27 minutes, featuring trailers for games like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and Octopath Traveler 0. This was followed by a general Nintendo Direct on September 12, 2025, which lasted an hour.

Unlike a typical Nintendo Direct which covers everything, a Partner Showcase highlights games being made by companies other than Nintendo for the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. We might see titles like Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light, and a new Switch 2 game called The Duskbloods from the creators of Elden Ring. There’s also a chance we’ll learn more about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth coming to the Switch 2, following the successful launch of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on the new console. Right now, though, Nintendo and its partners are keeping details under wraps, so fans will need to stay tuned for official announcements.

Nintendo Already Has a Busy February Ahead

While fans are hoping for a Nintendo Partner Showcase, February is already shaping up to be a busy month for gamers. February 27th marks the 30th anniversary of Pokemon, and the annual Pokemon Day celebration is expected to include a Pokemon Presents broadcast – which has been a tradition. Although not officially announced, a Pokemon Presents event on that date is highly likely. Rumors suggest the presentation might heavily feature the next generation of Pokemon games, currently referred to as Pokemon Wind and Waves by those in the know.

To celebrate Pokemon Day, Nintendo is bringing back some of its lesser-known consoles! Fans with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership will be able to play classic Virtual Boy games through a new app launching on February 17th. The app will initially include seven games, such as 3-D Tetris and Virtual Boy Wario Land, with two more – D-Hopper and Zero Racers – added in future updates. To play, you’ll need to purchase a separate Virtual Boy accessory kit that connects to your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2.
