Many dedicated fans have expressed frustration with recent changes to the game, and it appears Bungie is now working on a major update to try and win players back.

On November 25th, Colony Deaks, a source known for reliable leaks about the Destiny and Marathon games, reported that Destiny 3 is currently in development. While the game is in very early stages, Deaks suggests we might hear more details as development progresses. Recently, Bungie announced they’re postponing a full update on the game’s future plans until 2026, and this delay could be connected to the start of Destiny 3‘s development. However, Bungie hasn’t officially explained the reason for the postponement.
Bungie recently asked players for feedback on potential improvements to the game, and many questions focused on new features. Considering the news about a possible Destiny 3, this survey might be a way for the developers to see what players want in a future game. While these changes could be for Destiny 2 alone, successful updates could also influence the design of Destiny 3. Essentially, the ongoing development of Destiny 2 could be a testing ground for ideas that might be included in the next installment.
Because Destiny 2 is designed as a constantly updated game, it could technically continue indefinitely instead of a new game being made.
