Rumor: First-Party PlayStation Game Could Be Coming to Xbox Soon

Summary

  • LEGO Horizon Adventures is reportedly coming to Xbox consoles.
  • The game’s Xbox port may arrive by early 2025.
  • Developed by Studio Gobo and PlayStation-owned Guerrilla Games, LEGO Horizon Adventures debuted for the PS5, Switch, and PC in mid-November 2024, and seems to have underperformed commercially.

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that I was initially intrigued by the news about LEGO Horizon Adventures coming to Xbox consoles. However, the game’s seemingly underwhelming performance at launch has left me feeling a bit cautious.

According to recent reports, it appears that a version of LEGO Horizon Adventures specifically for the Xbox console is currently being developed. This supposed port of the game is said to be slated for release in the near future.

Initially launched simultaneously on platforms other than PlayStation, such as the Nintendo Switch and PC, LEGO Horizon Adventures was not solely created by Guerrilla Games (a Sony subsidiary) but also Studio Gobo. As of now, neither Guerrilla nor PlayStation have hinted at plans for additional versions of this game to be developed.

According to an article published on December 15 by Algerian gaming news outlet Just Play It, there’s a potential for the LEGO Horizon Adventures game to be released on Xbox. The report suggests that the game might appear on Xbox consoles within a few months at most, based on information from sources close to the situation. If this comes to pass, fans could be playing LEGO Horizon Adventures on their Xbox consoles as early as December 2024 or in early 2025.

LEGO Horizon Adventures Has Seemingly Underperformed at Launch

Despite JPI not having a significant history of reliable leaks, its report gained some credibility when it was corroborated by Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, who first reported on LEGO Horizon Adventures in May 2024. JPI hypothesizes that an Xbox version of the game could be Sony’s countermove to its apparent low sales during launch. According to SteamDB data, the number of concurrent players for LEGO Horizon Adventures on Valve’s platform peaked at 602 following its mid-November 2024 release, suggesting that its PC debut might have been even less successful than Concord’s, making it probable that Sony did not achieve its sales targets for the game, regardless of what they were.

Despite the doubts about it, there’s a possibility that the game’s claimed Xbox version wasn’t influenced by its poor sales performance. If JPI’s prediction of an early 2025 release is correct, the decision to create the Xbox port might have been made well before LEGO Horizon Adventures was launched and failed.

It’s not typical for a first-party PlayStation game to appear on Xbox consoles, but there are exceptions. For instance, starting from 2021, the yearly releases of the MLB The Show series, created by Sony-owned San Diego Studio, have been accessible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Interestingly, these games were also day-one additions to the Xbox Game Pass, a decision unrelated to Sony. Instead, it was MLB Advanced Media – an MLB subsidiary handling publishing for the Xbox versions – who chose to make San Diego Studio’s baseball games available on Microsoft’s subscription service.
