A new leak suggests that Microsoft might remake the second and third games in the Halo series, similar to how they revamped the original Combat Evolved. While rumors correctly predicted the Combat Evolved remake to celebrate its 25th anniversary, this leak indicates Microsoft plans to update the entire original Halo trilogy with modern remakes over the next few years.
Halo Studios revealed the remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved at the 2025 Halo World Championships on October 24th, confirming long-held expectations. This groundbreaking game, which helped make console shooters popular, is getting a complete overhaul and will also be available on PlayStation 5. Following its release in 2026, there’s a possibility of even more Halo remakes coming in the future.
Leaker Says Halo 2 and 3 Will Also Get Campaign-Only Remakes
On October 30th, the Halo Leaks Twitter account reported that remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 are planned, following the same approach as the Halo: Combat Evolved remake. This means they’ll likely launch without traditional PvP multiplayer, focusing solely on the campaign story. The post suggests these won’t be simple graphical updates like Halo 2 Anniversary, but full remakes that will include the sprint mechanic – a feature some longtime Halo fans dislike. Halo Leaks also believes a full multiplayer experience will arrive with Halo 7, a prediction they made previously when accurately forecasting that the Halo: Combat Evolved remake would include sprint and other modern gameplay features.
It’s not entirely unexpected that this new game focuses on a single-player campaign, mirroring the choices made with the first Halo game, but some fans are still let down. Many consider Halo 3 to have the best multiplayer experience and Halo 2 pioneered online battles for the series. There’s still hope for some cooperative play, as the original Halo allowed players to team up for the story campaign. However, details are currently unclear, and Halo Studios will likely take some time to officially confirm anything, especially since the game was just recently announced.
Microsoft has currently announced a remake of the original Halo game, but they’ve also hinted at what’s coming next for the series. According to Brian Jarrard, a community director at Halo Studios, future Halo games will be released on PlayStation. This means that if the rumors about remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 are true, more players will be able to enjoy them. The same would apply to a potential Halo 7, though Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed that game or announced when it might come out.
