According to a reliable source, the talked-about Halo: Combat Evolved remake might be created in partnership with Abstraction. While Microsoft and Halo Studios haven’t officially confirmed the existence of a remake of the iconic first-person shooter, several leaks and rumors suggest it’s in development. With the 25th anniversary of Halo: Combat Evolved approaching, more details about this updated version are reportedly surfacing.
Although many questions remain about a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, fans of the series know that major announcements are coming soon. Halo Studios has confirmed they will share details about future Halo projects on October 24th, during the Halo World Championship. It’s unclear if this will include a reimagining of the original game, but with the significant anniversary approaching, a new version seems likely, and fans might have recently gotten a sneak peek.
Leaker Claims Abstraction Will Help Develop the Halo: Combat Evolved Remake
Well-known Halo leak source Rebs Gaming posted a video on October 2nd stating that, according to “multiple sources,” Abstraction is working with Halo Studios to remake Halo: Combat Evolved. These sources also indicated the game will use a combination of game engines. Halo Studios has already announced that future Halo titles will be built with Unreal Engine 5, moving away from the Slipspace Engine used for Halo: Infinite. However, this leak suggests the Halo: CE remake will utilize Unreal Engine only for its graphics, with a tweaked version of the Blam! engine from Halo: Reach powering the gameplay. This approach would be comparable to The Master Chief Collection, which combined Blam!, Saber3D, and Unreal 4.
It actually makes a lot of sense that Abstraction might co-develop the Halo: CE remake. They previously assisted with The Master Chief Collection as a creative partner, and they also have experience with remakes, particularly the well-received Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Plus, Abstraction is part of Virtuous, the company that worked on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. Given that Oblivion Remastered attracted over nine million players within three months of launch, their team seems like a smart pick to help with a Halo remake, especially as the franchise aims to regain momentum.
There’s talk that the Halo: CE remake might be released on PS5, as Xbox and Sony are gradually moving away from making games exclusive to their own consoles. People have been speculating about the Halo series appearing on other platforms for a while, coinciding with the remake rumors. However, it’s all just guesswork until Xbox or Sony officially announces something. Luckily, we might not have to wait much longer to find out more, but for now, it’s wise to be skeptical about these reports.
