Recent discoveries suggest Sony might be working on new features for the PS5, like cross-buy functionality and a mode that lets you quickly restart games. Leaked images of store icons hint at these possibilities, and also suggest Sony could be highlighting which PS5 games are also available on PC. Interestingly, these icons haven’t been found on the PS4.
The PlayStation 5 had a difficult start in 2020, but it’s steadily gained popularity thanks to its exclusive games and support for well-known titles from other developers. As Sony has stopped fully supporting the older PS4, more players have upgraded to the PS5 to enjoy both backward-compatible favorites and new exclusives. While some major PS5 games, such as God of War Ragnarök and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, have become available on PC, the PS5 still offers a more budget-friendly gaming experience compared to building a comparable PC.
Leaked PS5 Icons And Symbols May Indicate New Features In The Works
While we should treat unconfirmed reports with caution, a recent leak suggests Sony might be planning some changes to the PS5. A Twitter user named Amethxst shared information about potential new icons appearing on the console and PlayStation Network websites. One icon, labeled “PS5/PC,” could identify games like Lost Soul Aside that are available on both PlayStation and PC. Another newly discovered icon indicates Cross-Buy functionality, though what exactly it will do isn’t known yet. Game Rant confirmed the leaked images with a screenshot taken on a PS5 on November 4th.
Microsoft allows players to buy a game once and play it on both their PC and Xbox, and a recently discovered icon suggests Sony might be planning something similar. Along with this potential “Cross-Buy” feature, other new icons were found related to charging indicators, cloud saves, and DualSense controller features. These icons can be found on the PS5, but aren’t currently visible on the older PS4 console.
To address concerns about whether leaked PlayStation icons were real, Amethxst posted a video showing them. The video captured Amethxst’s PlayStation Network profile, which displayed each of the icons along with short descriptions. Amethxst explained these icons were added to profiles between March and November 2025, suggesting they were recently implemented.
The PlayStation 5 has sold over 80 million units, so Sony will probably continue to support it for many years. Whether the recently revealed console icons will actually be used in any new products or features is still unknown.
