It’s been over 45 years since the original Alien film thrilled audiences, and the franchise remains popular. Recent leaks suggest a new Alien survival horror game could be released in 2028. While many Alien games have come and gone with mixed results, the current trend of reviving classic horror titles bodes well for this upcoming space-based adventure.
Those who enjoy scary survival horror games likely remember Alien: Isolation, the popular 2014 title known for its intelligent alien enemy, realistic sound, and faithful storytelling. While the Alien universe has recently appeared in games like Dead by Daylight and Fortnite, fans wanting a truly terrifying, single-player experience might have a new game to anticipate.
New Alien Game Rumored Details
Sources familiar with the project have told Insider Gaming that a new Alien game is in development at Eidos Montreal, the studio behind titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and the 2014 Thief game. Leaked documents suggest the game will feature three key characters: the protagonist Aubrey, a possible antagonist named Ryuzo, and a character known as Ripley 8. The game is expected to combine action, platforming, and puzzle elements. Aubrey will reportedly have tools like a grappling hook and magnetic boots, though it’s currently unknown exactly how these will be used – they could assist with platforming, combat, or puzzle-solving.
Like the game Alien: Isolation, the new rumored Alien game is expected to feature an intelligent alien AI. This AI will allow the alien to learn from and react to the player’s choices throughout the game. But players won’t just be facing the alien – special ops units will also be hunting them down on a rundown spaceship. The game is being described as a single-player survival horror experience, similar to Shadow of the Tomb Raider but with the added threat of Xenomorphs. To survive, players will need to be resourceful, using stealth, combat skills, puzzle-solving, and even repair and coding abilities.
The game is currently targeted for a 2028 release, but it’s still early in development, so significant changes are possible before launch, and the release date could be pushed back if necessary. Excitingly, the studio has contacted Sigourney Weaver about returning as Ripley, though discussions are still preliminary.
I was super excited to hear about the new single-player Hellraiser game! It’s awesome to see Pinhead and the Cenobites finally getting their own video game, and a lot of horror fans, like me, are really grateful for it. Both Hellraiser and Alien are considered all-time greats in the horror genre, so everyone’s hoping these games – the confirmed Hellraiser one and the Alien game that’s been rumored – will deliver some seriously terrifying experiences for us gamers in the future. Fingers crossed!
