Summary
- The next Nintendo Direct might happen on February 4 or 5.
- Rumors of a February 2025 Nintendo Direct have been circulating for a while now.
- The purported event is expected to be focused on the 2025 Switch game lineup, and mostly consist of third-party titles.
It’s been hinted that the upcoming Nintendo Direct could occur on either February 4th or 5th, according to recent findings. Interestingly, this event is said to mark the end of Nintendo’s general Directs that don’t specifically focus on the Switch 2.
Normally, the large gaming corporation from Japan gives a heads-up about its Direct broadcasts the day before they happen. But on January 16, it broke this routine by scheduling a Nintendo Direct over two and a half months early. This specific event is known to focus on their upcoming console, and there are whispers that another Nintendo Direct, this time centered around the Switch, might take place before then.
The evidence supporting this theory has grown stronger due to a circumstantial factor: Nintendo’s maintenance schedule. As stated in a recent update on their website, the Switch user data and save file transfer services will be undergoing maintenance on February 4 from 8:30pm to 10:30pm Pacific Time. A Famiboards user, King, has pointed out that Nintendo’s online service maintenance often coincides with its broadcasting schedule. For example, the last two general Directs (in June 2024 and September 2023) were both timed to align with such service maintenance. Similarly, the September 2022 Nintendo Direct occurred a day after the company’s online services had undergone maintenance. Given this pattern, there’s a strong possibility that the next Nintendo Direct could be scheduled for either February 4 or 5.
A February 2025 Nintendo Direct Has Been Rumored For a While Now
The online service maintenance schedule set by the company manufacturing the switch doesn’t always reflect its specific broadcasts, such as those dedicated to particular games and streams branded under Nintendo Indie World. Nevertheless, there have been some indications suggesting a general Nintendo Direct in February 2025. This prediction was made by Pedro “PH Brazil” Henrique Lutti Lippe, a well-known Brazilian journalist, who previously broke the news that the Switch 2 release was scheduled for 2025 instead of the anticipated 2024 date by many industry experts last year.
If a Nintendo Direct in February 2025 does occur, it’s highly likely that the event will showcase the lineup of games for the Switch this year. Among the potential highlights, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond appears to be a strong possibility to be showcased during the live broadcast, given that it’s one of the major first-party games yet to be released on the Nintendo Switch which was launched in 2017. However, details about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, another game confirmed for the Switch, might not surface until February 27, a date when it’s speculated that a Pokemon Day 2025 event called Pokemon Presents could happen, where new information on Game Freak’s upcoming title may be revealed.
Since Nintendo is rumored to be keeping most of its unrevealed first-party games exclusively for the Switch 2, it appears quite probable that the upcoming Direct presentation in early 2025 will mainly feature third-party titles. Regarding Nintendo’s next console, the timeline of its pop-up preview events hints that it won’t debut until at least June 2025.
