A trusted expert from within the gaming industry has hinted that the next Sony’s State of Play will likely occur around mid-February 2025. As always, this upcoming broadcast is anticipated to emphasize third-party games for PlayStation, while potentially showcasing a handful of exclusive first-party titles as well.
As a dedicated gamer since the inception of Sony’s State of Play broadcasts in 2019, I’ve come to eagerly anticipate at least four events each year. The most recent State of Play event, held in late September 2024, was nothing short of thrilling for me! It showcased the highly anticipated Ghost of Yotei, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and Monster Hunter Wilds, alongside over a dozen other captivating games and DLC. I couldn’t wait to delve into these exciting new additions to my gaming library!
As a passionate gamer, I’ve got some exciting news to share! Back in January midway through, an insider known as NateTheHate hinted that the next PlayStation State of Play might be happening in February 2025. Recently, when a fan asked for a more specific time frame, NateTheHate playfully replied with a question: “what does your heart tell you?” Now, this witty comment makes me think we could be looking at the event around Valentine’s Day, or mid-February to be exact.
Now, I must stress that all such rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt. However, NateTheHate has a strong reputation and has recently been on a roll, even managing to leak the date of the highly anticipated Switch 2 announcement in advance. So, take it as you will!
Next State of Play May Happen Between February 11 and 19
For the past 2 years and a few months, Sony has hosted 25 State of Play events and four larger showcases, none of which have been on Fridays. Since Valentine’s Day, February 14, falls on a Friday this year, it seems unlikely that the next State of Play will occur on that day. Traditionally, Sony prefers Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for their game showcases, in that order. If we consider NateTheHate’s prediction of a mid-February livestream and this trend, the most probable dates for the event would be between February 11–13 or 18–19. Sony usually announces PlayStation State of Play broadcasts at least two days in advance, so if this prediction holds true, we can expect an announcement by no later than February 17.
What Games Could Appear at the February 2025 State of Play?
It’s possible that the February 2025 State of Play event will showcase Kojima Productions’ upcoming game, given that “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” is slated for a 2025 release but hasn’t yet secured a definite launch date. Similarly, “Ghost of Yotei” might make an appearance at this event due to its uncertain release schedule. Additionally, “Fairgame$”, the inaugural project from Sony-owned Haven Studios, could potentially be included in the lineup for the State of Play, as it hasn’t been displayed since its unveiling in 2023.
On average, State of Play events not centered on specific games last approximately 35 minutes. So, it’s reasonable to expect the proposed live stream in February 2025 to run for a comparable length of time.
