A major point of contention among fans was the absence of Bethesda’s signature handcrafted locations in favor of procedural generation to support the game’s expanded vision. In September 2024, Bethesda unveiled the Shattered Space expansion as an effort to revive player interest. Despite positive reviews for returning to their traditional style, the DLC barely registered on the player count charts for Starfield, causing some to speculate that further support might be coming to an end. However, a recent podcast hinted at new developments when Jez Corden from Windows Central mentioned that the main teams at Bethesda are currently working on expansions for Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6, and also confirmed that plans for Fallout 5 have been approved.
On July 14th, a known leaker named NateTheHate posted in a discussion on ResetEra, “It looks like another DLC expansion is yet to be released, but it may not arrive by 2025 now.” This comment was in response to someone asking if there would be more content for the game Starfield. NateTheHate indirectly verified Jez Corden’s earlier leak by confirming that a DLC is indeed being developed. Furthermore, his statement suggests that the release window might be early 2026, which supports the notion that development has been in progress for quite some time.
NateTheHate Says Starfield’s Next Major DLC Is Delayed
NateTheHate, who’s quite recognized in the community, has a history of accurate leaks. Lately, he suggested that Starfield might be making its way to PS5. This prediction aligns with other industry experts’ insights, although an official announcement is yet to be made. However, it seems plausible that this speculation could turn out to be factual.
The tepid response to Shattered Space has placed significant pressure on the upcoming Starfield DLC. If it doesn’t spark interest within the community and re-attract players, there’s a strong possibility that Bethesda may cease developing additional content for the game. However, the good news is that the Starfield modding scene is thriving, with activity levels even surpassing those of Morrowind on platforms like Nexus Mods. In fact, it’s currently one of the most downloaded games on these platforms. So, while this DLC might be the last major expansion for Starfield, dedicated modders could potentially keep the game going long after official support is discontinued.
