It’s possible that Nintendo may have accidentally hinted at a multiplayer mode for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” by mentioning the “Link Play” menu in the game. As the release date of October 16th draws closer, excitement for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” continues to build, with fans eagerly awaiting any additional details before its official launch. This has led to a surge of fan theories as players look for more information about their upcoming adventure in Lumiose City.
2025’s highly-awaited title, “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” has generated much buzz and conjecture among gamers. Being the sequel to 2022’s “Pokemon Legends: Arceus,” it’s only natural for fans to draw comparisons between the two. The latest Link Play unveil offers a feature in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” reminiscent of “Arceus,” but with a distinct spin that some speculate hints at the inclusion of a multiplayer option within this new game.
The Nintendo eShop description for Pokemon Legends: Z-A hints at a possible multiplayer aspect that hasn’t been announced yet, as it mentions a Link Play menu. As you advance Mable’s Research and unlock rewards in the game, you can access the Mystery Gift function through this Link Play menu. Interestingly, Pokemon Legends: Arceus didn’t have a Link Play menu, but players could still trade Pokemon and receive Mystery Gifts. The absence of a Link Play menu in Arceus might suggest that earlier games required a Link Cable to connect with other players, which seems to be unnecessary in this new title.
New Pokemon Legends: Z-A Menu Could Hint at Multiplayer
The game’s description states that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is designed for single-player only, but there are conflicting reports about its multiplayer capabilities. Additionally, while linking your user profile to a Nintendo Account is necessary for receiving Mystery Gifts or pre-order bonuses, a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Interestingly, the Japanese version of the game’s eShop listing notes that the maximum number of players for online and local play will be announced at a later time.

It would greatly enhance the gaming experience of Pokemon Legends: Z-A if multiplayer was included. Although Pokemon Legends: Arceus was a captivating solo adventure, the absence of multiplayer combat left the Pokemon experience feeling incomplete. The innovative battle mechanics introduced in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which offer a new perspective on the popular monster-collecting series, would be wasted if players worldwide couldn’t engage in friendly competition to test out new strategies together.
