As a cinephile enthusiastically sharing insights, I’m excited to report that Robert Pattinson is poised for a comeback in “The Batman 2”. Nevertheless, there have been persistent delays and whispers abound suggesting that the upcoming “Batman” film may not feature Pattinson.
Robert Pattinson’s 2022 film, titled “The Batman”, serves as a fresh start for the movie series and is helmed by Matt Reeves. Unlike its predecessors, “The Batman” offers a darker, more atmospheric feel, presenting a unique perspective on the iconic character. Fans were particularly drawn to its intricate detective plot and Pattinson’s intense portrayal. The film was both a critical and financial triumph, prompting Warner Bros. to announce “The Batman – Part II” less than a month after its premiere. However, according to an industry source, the follow-up to Pattinson’s “Batman” may not be the next installment focusing on The Dark Knight.
It’s now been three years since “The Batman 2” was officially announced, but so far, there haven’t been many concrete updates about its production beyond repeated delays. In a recent episode of “The Hot Mic,” entertainment insider Jeff Sneider shared some fresh information about the movie. According to him, it seems unlikely that Reeves’ upcoming Batman film starring Pattinson will be the next Batman movie we see in theaters. Instead, he hinted that the next Batman might be part of a “world’s finest” film or something similar to a James Gunn production. Sneider also suggested that if Gunn’s next project doesn’t involve Superman directly, it could possibly feature both Superman and Batman, as Warner Bros. and DC are likely eager to bring The Dark Knight back to the big screen.
In April, there were whispers that the production of “The Batman 2” might be scrapped following news about Robert Pattinson’s involvement in “Dune 3“. This sparked worry among fans due to potential scheduling issues. Many have eagerly anticipated Pattinson reprising his role as Batman, but unfortunately, the release date has been postponed not once, but twice. Initially slated for October 2, 2025, it was then shifted to October 2, 2026, and later to October 1, 2027. Even Pattinson himself poked fun at the sequel’s delay, joking about his advanced age during a conversation with Hero Magazine in March. When asked if he would be working on “The Batman 2” soon, he humorously admitted that while he was young during the filming of the first Batman, he would be an “old Batman” by the time the sequel rolls around.
Given the path of “The Batman 2”, Sneider’s observation holds weight. Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman – Sequel” does not belong in the DC Universe overseen by Gunn and Safran. In past interviews, Gunn himself has indicated that Pattinson is unlikely to portray the DCU’s Dark Knight. This implies that they may be looking to cast a different actor as their Batman. If this is true, it’s possible that Gunn could produce a film with the beloved superhero character, but featuring a new lead. However, fans might find themselves puzzled if there are two versions of Batman in existence.
Regardless of previous castings, Batman is anticipated to be part of the DC Universe as he forms the Trinity with Superman and Wonder Woman from DC Comics. This trio embodies optimism, realism, and cynicism, making them some of the most beloved superheroes within DC Comics. Recently, Gunn and Safran introduced a fresh take on Superman with David Corenswet. Fans eagerly await the actors chosen for Wonder Woman (post-Gal Gadot) and Batman in the reimagined DCU after Ben Affleck. Fortunately for fans, they won’t have to wait until 2027 to see Batman on the big screen again; however, it appears that Pattinson’s followers will have a new and likely younger lead to look forward to.
Pattinson’s The Batman – Part II will hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
