As a seasoned gamer with decades of Mortal Kombat battles under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement when it comes to potential DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 1. The leaked hints about Cassie Cage and Kung Jin joining the fray bring back memories of the “Kombat Kids” from Mortal Kombat X, a game that I spent countless hours mastering their unique movesets.
It’s possible that some upcoming downloadable content (DLC) characters for the next Mortal Kombat game have been hinted at, potentially including Cassie Cage and Kung Jin. Historically, NetherRealm has added new fighters to their fighting games following release, with figures like Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda Takahashi joining the Mortal Kombat roster over the past year or so. The original Mortal Kombat game’s Kombat Pack 1 featured guest combatants such as Omni-Man from Invincible, Peacemaker from DC Comics, and Homelander of The Boys fame.
At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, NetherRealm unveiled the next batch of DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 1. These include the undead ninja Noob Saibot, as well as gender-swapped versions of Sektor and Cyrax, who will be joining the game as part of the upcoming Khaos Reigns story expansion. Additionally, the new Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat 1 will feature three more guest characters: Ghostface from the Scream series, the liquid metal T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Conan the Barbarian.
A recent leak is providing Mortal Kombat 1 fans with a potential glimpse at additional DLC characters that could be introduced following the recently announced Kombat Pack 2. YouTube channel FutureBoyWho shared a video featuring evidence suggesting that three characters from Mortal Kombat X, Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, and Jackie Briggs, may make an appearance in Mortal Kombat 1. Interestingly, character models for this cameo were created, with Cassie and Kung’s designs having been upgraded to a higher resolution compared to their original appearance in the cutscene.

Previously mentioned, Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, Jackie Briggs, and Takeda Takahashi first appeared in Mortal Kombat X from 2015 as the new generation of fighters, often referred to as “Kombat Kids.” They are the younger relatives of previous Mortal Kombat warriors, banding together to defend EarthRealm against impending dangers. Some fans believe that Takeda’s presence among Mortal Kombat 1’s former DLC characters hints at the possibility of more members from this group being added in the future.
While this latest leak doesn’t guarantee the addition of more “Kombat Kids” to Mortal Kombat 1 via DLC, if it happens, it raises intriguing questions about how they would fit into the revamped timeline of MK 1. For instance, when Takeda was introduced, he transitioned from being Kenshi Takahashi’s son to his cousin. If Cassie Cage and Kung Jin were to join Mortal Kombat 1 as playable characters in a future DLC expansion, it could imply that their backstories might undergo similar adjustments.
