Although unconfirmed reports should be viewed skeptically, a recent rumor suggests the next Star Wars game, the third in the Jedi series, could be released in the fourth quarter of 2026. The game is expected to continue Cal Kestis’s battle with the temptations of the Dark Side. When Respawn first announced Jedi: Fallen Order in 2018, Star Wars fans weren’t sure what to expect, drawing comparisons to games like God of War, Jedi Academy, and The Force Unleashed. Now, eight years later, Fallen Order and its sequel, Survivor, have become fan favorites and are considered some of the best Star Wars games released since Disney acquired the franchise – often ranked alongside classics like Knights of the Old Republic and Jedi Outcast.
The latest game in the series, Jedi: Survivor, came out in April 2023. While players and critics liked that it built upon the gameplay of the first game, Fallen Order, and offered a strong continuation of Cal Kestis’s story, the game suffered from technical problems for much of its first year. Despite these issues, it was a commercial success, selling over 600,000 copies in its first week and exceeding sales expectations for 2023 and 2024, according to Electronic Arts. Fans have been eager to learn when Respawn would announce the next installment, and current indications suggest a reveal is planned for May 2026.
Jedi: Survivor Sequel Allegedly Features Cal’s Daughter and Struggle Against the Dark Side
A source claiming contact with someone at Respawn says the next Jedi game will continue Cal Kestis’ story from where Jedi: Survivor ended. The game will focus on Cal raising his daughter with Kata while also battling his inner demons and the pull of the Dark Side – a storyline hinted at in the previous game but never fully developed. The core of the story will be Cal’s journey to find peace, symbolized by a moment where he cleanses a lightsaber crystal, changing it from red to white. It’s currently unknown whose lightsaber this is – it could belong to Dagan Gera, Bode Akuna, or even be Cal’s own.
According to leaked information, the next Jedi game will include a “Double Blaster” fighting style, building on a fan-favorite approach from Jedi: Survivor. Players will also be able to make choices that impact how the story unfolds as Cal Kestis, similar to the dual-path system in Ghost of Tsushima, though these choices won’t change the game’s ending. Interestingly, the source also detailed how Jedi: Survivor was developed differently than Jedi: Fallen Order.
The script for the first game was mostly complete before development started, but the story for Survivor was written as the game was being built. A source says the third game is being developed similarly to Jedi Survivor, which could impact the quality of the writing. As for when Star Wars fans can expect an announcement about the next Jedi game, the leak points to May 4, 2026. While the current plan is for a late 2026 release, EA might push it to early 2027 because of the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
The next Star Wars Jedi game has been in the works since 2023. The original director, Stig Asmussen, left the project later that year, and now other experienced developers at Respawn are leading the game’s development. While it’s still unknown how Respawn’s version will differ from the previous games, Star Wars fans are eagerly anticipating the end of Cal Kestis’ journey.
