It was recently proposed that Ubisoft abandoned plans for a sequel to “Star Wars Outlaws” during its initial development stages. This cancellation may jeopardize the continuation of Kay Vess’s storyline, potentially limiting it to a single adventure.
It’s well-known that the game “Star Wars Outlaws” didn’t perform financially well for Ubisoft. Players found it less appealing, despite positive reviews that gave it a top rating on OpenCritic. In today’s gaming world, breaking through to a large audience can be challenging, even with a popular IP like Star Wars. Interestingly, Ubisoft has attributed the game’s financial failure in part to the diminishing brand reputation of Star Wars.
According to TheGamer and Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, it appears that Ubisoft has decided not to move forward with the development of “Star Wars Outlaws 2.” This decision was made because the project was still in its infancy stages and hadn’t yet begun full production. Given recent financial losses suffered by Ubisoft, it seems sensible for them to reconsider investing heavily in a potential sequel to “Star Wars Outlaws,” especially considering the significant costs associated with creating larger-scale games today.
Canceled Star Wars Outlaws Sequel Was At ‘Very, Very, Very Early’ Stage
It’s unfortunate that fans may never witness the sequel Ubisoft was planning for Star Wars Outlaws, but it’s probably better this way now instead of years later, when a significant amount of effort might have been wasted. If Star Wars’ reputation doesn’t undergo a major transformation soon, it seems reasonable to assume that a Star Wars Outlaws sequel will remain just an idea.
Regardless of Ubisoft allegedly scrapping the sequel for Star Wars Outlaws, it appears they’re still dedicated to making the initial game a hit. They keep introducing fresh updates with additional features and bug fixes for Star Wars Outlaws. Moreover, Star Wars Outlaws is set to debut on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4, 2025, expanding its reach to a whole new player base later this year.
