Fans might get a look at a new God of War game this month, according to recent online rumors. While Sony and Santa Monica Studio are working on a remake of the original God of War trilogy, these rumors suggest a completely new God of War project could be revealed soon.
Rumors about a new God of War game surfaced while PlayStation was already making waves with the franchise. Right after the February 12th State of Play presentation, Sony surprised God of War fans by unexpectedly releasing God of War: Sons of Sparta, a prequel to the entire series in the Metroidvania style. Sons of Sparta tells the story of Kratos’s early years as he becomes a formidable Spartan warrior. Although it received some mixed reactions, the game was a success for Sony, ranking among the top 20 best-selling games in the US for February.
The Future of God of War Could Be Revealed Soon
While we should treat any unconfirmed information with caution, it sounds like a new God of War game might be announced as early as April. According to gaming host Tom Henderson on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, a new main installment is in the works. It’s important to note that this isn’t the same as the previously announced God of War Trilogy Remake, which was revealed in February. The original voice actor for Kratos, Terrence Carson, has confirmed he’s returning for the remake, but it’s still in the early stages of development, so don’t expect to see it soon. Therefore, fans shouldn’t anticipate a reveal of the remake in the immediate future.
Recent speculation about the next God of War game aligns with comments from industry insider NateTheHate regarding Sony’s plans. NateTheHate mentioned a possible date for the next State of Play broadcast – Thursday, April 16th – but stressed that this date isn’t confirmed. This means we might see more about the new God of War during a potential State of Play in April. Currently, Sony hasn’t announced when the next State of Play will be, so fans will need to stay tuned for updates.
PlayStation Fans Still Have Plenty To Be Excited About
In addition to potential news about a new God of War game, the upcoming State of Play event might also showcase another PlayStation 5 exclusive. Insomniac Games has said they plan to share more information about Marvel’s Wolverine sometime this spring. With the game scheduled to release on September 15th, they still have a few months to reveal more details about the title.
