RUMOR: Tom Holland’s Avengers: Doomsday Status Is Based On Spider-Man 4 Plans

Summary

  • Avengers: Doomsday cast revealed, Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom.
  • X-Men stars join MCU, but Tom Holland’s Spider-Man not in movie.
  • Spider-Man 4 storyline conflict prevents Holland from joining Avengers: Doomsday cast, to focus on next adventure.

This week, Marvel Studios generated a buzz throughout Hollywood by unveiling the main cast for what they’re calling “Avengers: Doomsday”. A nearly six-hour live broadcast that drew over four million viewers confirmed some major stars for the upcoming film, which has now officially begun production. The highly anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday” is slated for release on May 1, 2026, with Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Doctor Doom in this franchise.

It was revealed that some previous X-Men stars will make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, including Alan Cumming and Sir Ian McKellen revisiting their memorable mutant characters. Yet, there were several big names who didn’t secure a spot in the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, with a well-known web-slinger being among them.

Tom Holland has played a crucial role within the Marvel Cinatic Universe since his debut in “Captain America: Civil War,” leading three Spider-Man films and featuring in multiple Avengers productions. However, as per reports from industry insider Jeff Sneider, Holland won’t be part of “Avengers: Doomsday.” This is because the events of “Spider-Man 4” are expected to coincide with those of “Avengers: Doomsday,” implying that Marvel Studios has something else lined up for Spider-Man’s next escapade, rather than having him assist the Avengers.

It’s uncertain if the two films will share a narrative connection, but it seems Spider-Man won’t be facing off against Doctor Doom. Instead, Tom Holland will be working alongside Sadie Sink from Stranger Things, who has joined the cast of Spider-Man 4, although her character’s role hasn’t been specified yet. This development may affect Avengers: Doomsday as Spider-Man is a significant and engaging character in the MCU, and there’s much potential for his storyline with Downey Jr., given the foundation that has been laid. However, Marvel Studios has different plans for Holland’s popular Spider-Man character this time around.

Indeed, next year following the release of “Avengers: Doomsday” is slated to come “Avengers: Secret Wars“, another massive undertaking within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It’s generally assumed that most of the cast from “Avengers: Doomsday ” will carry over to this film to maintain narrative coherence. However, this doesn’t preclude additional characters from being introduced. If “Spider-Man 4” is planned during the timeline of “Avengers: Doomsday“, Tom Holland’s character could effortlessly be incorporated into the movie with a suitable plotline.

Skipping Spider-Man in “Avengers: Doomsday” is quite a gamble for Marvel, given how crucial the character is to the overall narrative of the MCU. Yet, the film has plenty of other captivating characters to maintain audience engagement. However, it appears that Marvel has chosen this moment to let Spider-Man shine as the central figure in their franchise instead. For now, it seems like “Avengers: Doomsday” will proceed without Spider-Man, but there’s always a possibility he might make an appearance later on.
