Rumor: Undisputed May Be Adding One of the Greatest Boxers of All Time

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., who retired with a perfect 50-0 record, says he’s discussing a potential appearance in the 2024 boxing video game, *Undisputed*. The game already features popular fighters like Tyson Fury and Claressa Shields, and Mayweather could be the next big star added to the roster.

Boxing games like *Undisputed* and *Fight Night* are expensive to make, largely because developers have to pay individual, famous boxers to appear in the game. This isn’t an issue for EA’s *UFC* games, since all the fighters are already signed with one organization – the UFC – and EA has a deal with them. However, boxing is more complicated because many different organizations promote fighters, meaning developers like Steel City need to negotiate with each one individually.

Floyd Mayweather Reportedly in Talks With Steel City Interactive

Steel City, the studio behind the boxing game *Undisputed*, has already featured legendary fighters like Canelo Alvarez, Buster Douglas, Larry Holmes, Rocky Marciano, and Muhammad Ali. Now, it appears they’re hoping to add Floyd Mayweather Jr. to the roster. A Reddit user recently asked Mayweather what it would take for him to join the game, and he hinted at a possible appearance, saying, “I just need everybody to sit back, buckle your seat belts, because I may be on the next game.” While this suggests he might be in talks for a sequel (*Undisputed 2*), it’s more likely he was referring to a future update or downloadable content for the existing game.

Floyd Mayweather hasn’t been featured in many boxing video games, with his last official appearance being in *Fight Night Round 2* back in 2005. Throughout his career, he’s earned over $1 billion, making him the highest-paid boxer ever. Given his nickname, ‘Money’ Mayweather, it’s widely believed he demands a very high fee to be included in games like the *Fight Night* series. So, while he says he’s discussing a potential appearance with Steel City, it’s best to be cautious about those claims for now.

Steel City is consistently updating and expanding their boxing game, *Undisputed*, with new content. Most recently, in August, they released a major patch featuring two new fighters: Antonio Tarver, a former champion in both the light heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions, and Billy Dib, a former featherweight and super-featherweight champion. They also launched ‘The Takeover Pack’ DLC, which added even more playable fighters.
