Rumor: Upcoming Pokemon TCG Set May Feature Fan-Favorite Legendary

New buzz about the third expansion in the Pokemon Trading Card Game focusing on “Mega Evolution” indicates that a well-known Mega Pokemon might be released soon. The popular card game, part of the huge monster-catching franchise, has given fans lots of amazing and strong cards to collect and play with. “Mega Evolution” officially launched late last week, reintroducing Mega Pokemon to the Pokemon TCG after almost ten years, featuring favorites like Mega Gardevoir and Mega Lucario. Now, early details are hinting at what’s coming in one of the game’s future sets.

Although Mega Evolution just came out, The Pokemon Company is already giving fans a sneak peek at what’s planned for the rest of the year. The next set, called “Phantasmal Flames“, has been confirmed, and it will feature Mega Charizard X on its cover. Along with that, Mega Heracross, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Gengar have been announced as new additions to the set. Now, new rumors are hinting at what the third set will include, promising some exciting Pokemon are on the way.

According to PokeBeach, details are starting to appear about some of the main Pokemon in the third expansion of the Pokemon TCG’s “Mega Evolution” series. This set, believed to be called “Storm Emeralda,” has been confirmed through retail listings to include Mega Zygarde ex as a key Pokemon. The name “Emeralda” has also sparked a lot of discussion that Mega Rayquaza ex might be featured in the set, potentially as a major highlight. Currently, Storm Emeralda is anticipated to be released in Japan in January 2026.

Pokemon TCG May Be Adding Mega Rayquaza

Bringing Mega Rayquaza into the Pokemon TCG would mark the return of a truly powerful Mega Pokemon. Mega Rayquaza previously controlled the TCG after it first appeared in the “Roaring Skies” expansion, even achieving a Top 8 placement at the 2016 US National Championships. Just like in the video games during the X & Y generation, where it was considered so strong it was excluded from competitive play, Mega Rayquaza would be a force to be reckoned with.

As a big fan of the Pokemon TCG, I’m really excited about everything coming in the rest of 2025! We’re getting a lot of cool releases, and it looks like the Pokemon TCG will finish the year strong with “Phantasmal Flames,” which is scheduled to drop on November 14th just in time for the holidays. But that’s not all – Pokemon is also introducing a completely new rarity to the game! The Japanese “Mega Dream ex” set will add “Mega Attack Rare” cards, which sounds amazing. It feels like a brand-new era is starting for the Pokemon TCG, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us fans!
