Summary
- Disney may be partnering with Xbox for new Star Wars game.
- This comes after the incredible success of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
- It’s unclear which Xbox studio will be developing the title.
Disney could potentially collaborate with Xbox again for a fresh Star Wars video game, based on recent rumors. Previously, these two companies have worked together to produce Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was developed by MachineGames – a studio under Bethesda. This game was released in December last year to widespread critical praise and later became one of the first significant Xbox-exclusive titles available on PlayStation 5 in April this year. Interestingly, another Bethesda team, Arkane Lyon, is still working on Marvel’s Blade game.
Since Electronic Arts (EA) ended its exclusivity over the Star Wars franchise two years ago, there has been a surge of exciting new games set in the iconic sci-fi world. The most anticipated among these is Ubisoft’s 2024 release, Star Wars Outlaws, which promises to be the first open-world Star Wars game. Additionally, there have been remasters of older Star Wars games, such as Nightdive Studios’ Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster and Aspyr’s Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles. There are also several other games in development, including EA’s third Star Wars Jedi game, Quantic Dream’s mysterious Star Wars Eclipse, a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by Aspyr, and the recently announced Star Wars Zero Company, an XCOM-like tactics game from Bit Reactor.
There’s a buzz about a potential new “Star Wars” game being developed, this time possibly under the Xbox brand. As per Xbox influencer Riskit4TB on Twitter, Disney might be considering another collaboration with Xbox, following the acclaimed reception of “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.” Riskit’s sources indicate that it could be a new “Star Wars” game that Disney is allegedly planning to produce in partnership with Xbox.
Disney Might Be Working on New Star Wars Game with Xbox
The latest gossip brings up an intriguing point: Which Xbox-affiliated studio would be most suitable for creating a Star Wars game? Following the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, MachineGames is widely believed to continue its work on the Wolfenstein series with a third mainline installment, given it’s been eight years since 2017’s Wolfenstein 2. Previously, there were whispers about Coalition developing a Mandalorian game, but with Gears of War: E-Day in their pipeline, this possibility now seems remote. As for Ninja Theory, id Software, Zenimax Online, and the newly formed Elsewhere Entertainment, they haven’t yet revealed their next big projects, making them strong candidates for a Star Wars production.
Despite the Xbox Games Showcase being scheduled for this coming Sunday, June 8th, it’s important to note that Disney or Star Wars-related news might not be announced there, if the rumors are accurate and the game is still several years away. However, it’s possible we may get a fresh glimpse at Marvel’s Blade, as Arkane Lyon could use Sunday to shine with their Xbox-focused presentation.
